Position Overview

Vision IT is seeking a highly experienced Configuration Manager – Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support mission-critical IT and program management functions at Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAAFB). The SME will be responsible for overseeing configuration management (CM) processes, ensuring compliance with DoD standards, and maintaining strict control over system baselines across complex defense IT environments.

This role requires deep expertise in configuration management principles, strong familiarity with DoD lifecycle processes, and the ability to operate effectively in a secure, mission-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage end-to-end Configuration Management (CM) activities across assigned systems and programs
  • Establish, maintain, and enforce configuration baselines in accordance with DoD and Air Force standards
  • Chair or support Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) and change management processes
  • Ensure all configuration changes are properly documented, reviewed, approved, and implemented
  • Maintain configuration status accounting and audit readiness for all controlled items
  • Collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity, program management, and operations teams
  • Support system lifecycle management, including development, testing, deployment, and sustainment phases
  • Conduct configuration audits (Functional Configuration Audits and Physical Configuration Audits)
  • Ensure compliance with applicable policies such as DoD 5000 series and organizational CM directives
  • Provide SME-level guidance and mentorship to junior configuration management personnel
  • Support reporting requirements, documentation updates, and compliance reviews

Required Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance or higher (required, no exceptions)
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in Configuration Management or related discipline
  • Strong understanding of DoD acquisition and lifecycle management processes
  • Experience supporting Air Force or other DoD environments preferred
  • Proficiency with CM tools and repositories (e.g., CMDBs, version control systems, or enterprise CM tools)
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supporting Configuration Control Boards (CCBs)
  • Strong documentation, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to work full-time on-site at LAAFB

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Space Force or Air Force IT programs
  • Knowledge of ITIL, ISO 20000, or similar service management frameworks
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity compliance requirements (RMF, NIST 800-53)
  • Prior SME-level advisory experience in government or defense contracting environments
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
