Job Summary

The Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College invites applications for a 12-month, full-time Administrative and Professional Staff position as Conservatory Arts Administration Fellow.

The Conservatory Arts Administration Fellow reports to the Dean of the Conservatory and works under the supervision (as directed by the Dean) of the Associate Dean for Artistic Programming and External Relations and the Associate Dean for Academic Support.

This is a one-year position effective during the 26-27 academic year (July 1, 2026- June 30, 2027), with the possibility of a contract extension.

The Oberlin Conservatory of Music, founded in 1865, is the nation's oldest continuously operating conservatory, and the only major music school in the country linked with a preeminent liberal arts college. Students are enrolled in undergraduate programs leading to the Bachelor of Music in performance, jazz studies, composition, technology in music and related arts, recording arts and production, music theater, and musicology. Oberlin also offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Music in conducting, the Master of Music in performance on historical instruments, the Master of Fine Arts in piano technology, and artist diplomas.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Dean of the Conservatory, the Fellow will support a broad suite of artistic programs, educational residencies, alumni-engagement activities, as well as various professional-development and student-support initiatives. In so doing, the Fellow will work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and alumni in both the Conservatory and the College of Arts and Sciences as well as visiting artists and scholars. Formally reporting to the Conservatory Dean, the Fellow will work under the direct supervision, as assigned, of the Associate Dean for Artistic Programming and External Relations, the Associate Dean for Academic Support, and others.

Essential Job Functions

In support of the Associate Dean for Artistic Programming and External Relations:

  • Assist with the planning and execution of guest artist visits and residencies;
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of student run-out concerts and tours;
  • Assist with the planning and execution of signature Conservatory concert series, competitions, and events;
  • Assist with the coordination of Conservatory alumni engagement and donor stewardship events and programs;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Artistic Programming and External Relations.

In support of the Associate Dean for Academic Support:

  • Assist with the coordination of the ConPALs program, both during Orientation and throughout the year;
  • Periodically assist with Conservatory Wellness programming, as assigned;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean for Academic Support.

In support of the Office of the Dean:

  • Assist the following offices: Associate Dean for Artistic Programming and External Relations and the Associate Dean for Student Support;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of the Conservatory, including, but not limited to, working with the Sr. Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Sr. Associate Dean for Artistic Administration and Operations, the Associate Dean for Student Academic Affairs, and the Manager of Academic Operations.

Marginal Job Functions Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in music or arts administration, or a related field;
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience demonstrating well-developed interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to perform detailed work with accuracy;
  • Ability to independently interpret and apply a variety of complex academic and organizational policies and procedures;
  • Technological savvy, in particular experience and skill working with standard office applications (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.), Canva, and ability to utilize CRM and CMS tools;
  • Availability to work nights and weekends as needed;

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with CRM and CMS tools;
  • Email and social-media marketing skills.
