As our current Controller of 20 years prepares for retirement, we are seeking a dedicated financial leader to step into this pivotal role. The Construction Controller will lead all accounting and financial operations, ensuring absolute compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. This role involves overseeing project accounting, driving financial accuracy, managing budgeting and forecasting, and providing strategic insights to senior leadership. Job Details

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of project accounting, including general ledger management, account reconciliation, and financial reporting aligned with GAAP and IFRS.
  • Own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including the preparation and analysis of Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.
  • Manage bank reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and cash postings, while monitoring cash management activities to optimize liquidity.
  • Supervise accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections while maintaining strong vendor relationships.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports, including project budgets, forecasts, and regulatory filings for governmental agencies.
  • Utilize, maintain, and improve construction-based ERP systems (such as Sage, Microsoft Dynamics SL, Viewpoint) with a focus on automation and process optimization.
  • Lead internal audits, support external audit processes, and uphold rigorous internal controls across all financial functions.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers to analyze costs, perform account analysis, and support financial decision-making to maximize project profitability.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; a CPA license is highly desirable.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience within commercial construction.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a Controller role at a company with at least $25M in annual revenue is preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of construction-specific accounting, including percentage-of-completion methods, job costing, and WIP reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance, and governmental accounting standards.
  • Solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping principles, including debits/credits and general ledger reconciliation processes.
  • Proficiency with construction-based ERP accounting software (Sage, Microsoft Dynamics SL, Viewpoint, or similar).
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills, with a strong ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
