Dedicated to serving those who defend the US and warfighters, Nisga’a MOSTT offers Military Operations support and Specialized Tactical Training (MOSTT). Nisga’a MOSTT’s services include aviation and military training, cybersecurity, intelligence gathering and analysis, and simulation and exercise support, as well as aviation flight logistics support and unmanned aerial vehicle support.  

 

Summary:

The Construction Electrician Advance Instructor will provide support for the Naval Construction Training Center located in Gulfport, MS. Instructor personnel are designated by the command for the Advanced Construction Electrician Schools.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide technical knowledge and practical skills necessary for a Construction Electrician to utilize the National Electric Code (NEC), installation of explosion proof fixtures and devices, installation of photocells, installation of thermostats, utilization of the fish tape, conductor installation system, utilization of the heavy duty cable puller, threading and bending large conduits.
  • Provide advanced instruction on the techniques and procedures for joining power cable employing straight and branched splices; termination and dead ends, testing and fault finding of cable system. Splice underground and aerial communications cable including cable terminations. Construct bridge and straight splices in plastic sheathed communication cable. Locate faults using appropriate equipment, techniques and safety precautions. Splice and terminate fiber optic cable with mechanical and fusion splices. Use optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) and power meter for testing and fault finding.
  • Provide advanced instruction on the installation procedures, operation of an Advanced Base Power Plant in single and parallel operation. Maintenance and troubleshooting of Advanced Base Power Plants and associated equipment, is also covered.
  • Provide advanced instruction on wiring motor controllers for auto transformer, resistance, and star-delta starting. Perform technical maintenance to include coils, relays, contacts, and switches. Establish a preventive maintenance program.
  • Provide advanced instruction on the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary for assignment as an electrical crew supervisor. Electrical theory, the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of solid-state devices in peacetime and contingency operations under limited supervision.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications:

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Shall be skilled in the principles of electrical theory; street lighting systems; electrical transmission systems; repair of electrical motors and generators; operation and maintenance of electrical power plants; solid state fundamentals; interoffice communication systems; telephone systems; installation and design of interior wiring and lighting systems; motor controller installation; and major/minor appliance repair.
  • Have knowledge in the techniques and procedures for joining power cable employing straight and branched splices; termination and dead ends, testing and fault finding of cable system. Slice underground and aerial communications cable including cable terminations. Construct bridge and straight slices in sheathed communication cable. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of construction electrician experience.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous teaching or mentoring experience is highly desirable.
