About This Role:

The Principal Engineer position will serve as a Construction Manager. Work involves managing complex road construction projects in the Capital Division. The recommended candidate will independently plan and complete construction assignments using a wide latitude of judgment in completing major road construction projects. The Construction Manager will oversee construction management of road transportation projects ensuring compliance with all County, VDOT, and Federal construction standards and specifications as required by the project.

HIRING BONUS: This position qualifies for a one-time cash signing bonus up to $3,000! This bonus will be paid in two installments and is subject to all applicable tax withholding and reporting requirements. The first installment of up to $1,500 is payable upon the County's pay date following the 90th day of employment and the final installment up to $1,500 will be payable on the pay date following the completion of your one-year probation. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)-approved college or university and 3 years of experience in the construction-related field.

Preferences: A graduate Engineer with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field. The preferred candidate will have 5 years of experience managing road and bridge construction projects as well as land development projects. Experience working with County, State, construction specifications and regulations. Experience managing utility and infrastructure type construction projects and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders to accomplish objectives. Experience on Design-Build projects is a plus!

Special Requirements: Valid Drivers License. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer prior to being allowed to operate a County vehicle.

Work Schedule: 7.5- hour workdays and some nights and weekends to align with the contractor's schedule.

Starting Salary Range: $91,162.50 - 152,509.50
