Construction Environmental Specialist - Solar

Mortenson is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist to join our Solar group with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

The Environmental Specialist will support Mortensons environmental management efforts for Civil, Solar, Wind and High Voltage Transmission Groups projects throughout North America, providing review of environmental documentation, and advising on environmental matters in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures.

Do you have environmental compliance experience identifying and disposal of hazardous waste, and managing & preventing contamination of soil, water, and air? This role involves developing and implementing environmental programs at Mortensons solar project worksites.

Location: Must be open to any location in the continental United States.

Travel: This is a regional position that will be supporting projects in a specified area. Preference for candidates located in AZ, TX, or NM. This is a 100% travel position. Mortenson hires for a career and not a project.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Implement and administer the environmental program at each work site.
• Assist project management team in developing and executing site specific environmental plans and activities.
• Participate in and contribute to project planning and environmental risk analysis.
• Review environmental submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings with subcontractors.
• Monitor and review trade partner work plans and activities for environmental concerns.
• Assist with implementation of policies and procedures and ensure compliance with all environmental regulations.
• Attend, develop and lead environmental orientation and training programs.
• Assist in the development of company-wide environmental management support programs.
• Monitor implementation of environmental mitigation measures.
• Conduct work site environmental inspections.
• Record, monitor, and analyze environmental statistics.
• Document and track all environmental violations, non-compliance conditions, etc.
• Conduct projects leading and trailing indicator data/document collection and trend analyses.
• Conduct or assist with incident analysis and response.
• Collaborate with customers on regulatory (Federal, State, Provincial, and Local) reporting and documentation requirements.
• Provide resource of environmental related information.
• Evaluate and offer solutions for environmental risks.
• Maintain operational knowledge of environmental issues in construction, US EPA, ASTM, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures.
• Serve as resource for environmental issues or concerns for all project team members.
• Attend and/or chair environmental meetings.
• Communicate with various third parties including the customers environmental personnel, environmental consultants, regulatory representatives, insurance representatives, etc.
• Accompany environmental, health and safety, insurance and regulatory personnel on work site tours.
• Ensure maintenance and inspection of environmental equipment.
• Assist the Project Manager with the management of the environmental budget allocated for project.
• Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelors degree or higher in Geology, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Biology, or related field.
• Minimum of four years related experience.
• Significant experience with two or more of the following areas:
• Erosion prevention and sediment control.
• Storm water pollution prevention plans.
• Spill prevention controls and countermeasures.
• Wetlands.
• Endangered species.
• Experience managing hazardous waste and contamination compliance.
• Experience with natural gas or oil is preferred.
• Strong understanding of Federal, State, Provincial and local laws, policies and procedures.
• A well-organized and self-directed individual who is collaborative and a team player.
• Ability to interact with consultants and governmental agencies.
• Ability to use PC, tablets and widely used software packages, e.g., spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word).
• Current drivers license.
• Able to travel up to 100%.

The base pay range for this role is $89,500 - $120,800. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individuals knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortensons incentive plan.
