Our client, a leader in heavy equipment rental for the construction industry, is hiring an experienced Construction Equipment Mechanic III to support its construction rental fleet in Orlando, Florida.

This is an advanced-level mechanic role focused on diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and preparing rental equipment for jobsite use. The role includes both shop and field work and requires someone who can work independently while also supporting the team when needed.

The equipment may include earthmoving equipment, diesel engines, gas engines, small tools, forklifts, aerial equipment, and other construction rental equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, service, and repair construction rental equipment in both shop and field environments.
  • Troubleshoot diesel engines, gas engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, electrical systems, brakes, suspension, fuel systems, ignition systems, exhaust systems, and related components.
  • Complete major component repairs, removals, replacements, rebuilds, and adjustments using proper tools, service manuals, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Inspect equipment for safety, operating condition, rental readiness, and jobsite suitability.
  • Support emergency repair needs in the field and determine whether equipment can return to service or needs additional shop repair.
  • Operate equipment as needed to confirm issues, test repairs, and move units safely in and out of the work area.
  • Maintain accurate service records, work orders, annual inspections, and repair documentation.
  • Keep tools, equipment, shop areas, and service trucks clean, organized, and maintained according to safety and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Coordinate parts needs for assigned repairs, including ordering, tracking, and returning parts as needed.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and equipment enclosure or structural repairs when required.
  • Assist and mentor less experienced technicians when needed.
  • Participate in required internal and external training.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of mechanical repair experience, or a combination of relevant experience and equivalent technical education.
  • Must have the tools needed to perform assigned work safely and efficiently.
  • Computer and basic typing skills required.
  • Ability to follow applicable safety standards, rules, laws, and procedures.
  • Ability to read technical manuals and schematic diagrams.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair engine, transmission, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to properly document work through written work orders and computer databases.
  • Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with coworkers and customers.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather.
  • Ability to perform repairs in confined spaces, including under dashboards, under vehicles, and similar areas.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to reach, hold, position, maneuver, and operate hand tools and replacement parts.
  • Ability to identify wires and other parts by color and other identifying information.
  • Ability to use fine hand and finger movements to identify and work on parts that may not always be visible.
  • Ability to lift, carry, position, and hold parts weighing up to 50 pounds alone and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to work with mechanical assistance on parts that may exceed 500 pounds.
