FROM: Brendan Masterson , Commissioner of Department of Public Works 313 Shamrock Lane , Kingston, NY 12401 JOB VACANCY: Construction Equipment Operator I / Permanent/ Provisional / Full-Time / Benefited LOCATION: Quarry -Kings ton SALARY : $30.02/hour (Grade PW-5) FILL DATE: July 21, 202 6 DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS : The work involves responsibility for the operation of highway construction equipment in the performance of recurring manual work related to highway maintenance, repair and construction activities. The employee is also responsible for the routine care of the equipment and for following prescribed safety procedures in its operation. This class differs from that of a Motor Equipment Operator by virtue of the fact that it operate s construction equipment. The work is perform ed under general supervision. Supervision may be exercised over the work of personnel in a lower job class as the specific tasks require. Does related work as required. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS : Good knowledge of the operation of trucks, rollers, backhoes, bucket loaders, road stripers, brooms and sweepers and other maintenance construction equipment; good knowledge of the safety procedures and precautions involved in the operation of heavy equipm ent; good knowledge of the geography of the area; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; ability to get along well with others; mechanical aptitude ; willingness to respond to emergencies; willingness to work under adverse weather conditions; dependability. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : One year of full -time paid, or its part -time equivalent, experience in the operation of automotive equipment. Special Requirement : At time of appointment, must possess a valid New York State Driver"s License appropriate for the vehicle and/or construction equipment being operated. Special Requirement for Positions in Ulster County Department of Public Works : Candidates for employment in this position must possess a valid New York State Motor Vehicle Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with required endorsements, if any, at time of appointment. New York State Class B CDL Driver License Vehicle Description: Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of more than 26,000 lbs. Class B may tow vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 10,000 lbs. or less, or may tow a vehicle of more than 10,000 lbs. providing the Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) is not more than 26,000 lbs. Fuel Truck operation may need other requirements (X endorsement). This is not required unless assigned to the operation of a Fuel Truck. Special Note : In accordance with Federal Highway Administration (HWA) 49CFR382, all prospective employees will undergo drug/alcohol testing prior to appointment and will undergo random drug/alcohol testing during the course of employment.
