Idaho Power — located in Twin Falls, Idaho — is looking for a temporary _Construction Equipment Operator II_ to join our Customer Operations team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. Whatdoes a Construction Equipment Operator IIdoforus?


The Construction Equipment Operator II performs assignments while operating a variety of heavy equipment and construction equipment. While on a work location, they report to the Foreman of that job. They assist with lines work as needed and scheduled. They may perform other construction-related groundwork when equipment is not in use.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE


Knowledge of:


+ Dig line rules

+ Grades and elevations

+ Function, operation, and care of commonly encountered construction equipment

+ Hazards and safety precautions of the work, traffic laws, ordinances, and rules

+ Material requests

+ DOT transportation regulations and laws pertaining to equipment, aggregate, and hazmat transportation

+ Familiarity of ANSI, OHSA rules and regulations


Skills in:


+ The basic use of personal computers, including email

+ Verbal and written communication


Ability to:


+ Work under direct supervision or be self-directed

+ Work with different foremen and crews

+ Establish effective working relationships

+ Travel and work throughout Idaho Power Company (IPC) service area

+ Use good judgment and initiative in resolving work problems

+ Work hitches and overtime as needed and maintain neat, accurate, and legible records

+ Follow oral and written instructions

+ Assist and train other operators


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


Education:


+ High school diploma or GED


Experience:


+ 4 or more years recent experience using mini-excavators, skid steers, trucks and trailers, and backhoes


Preferred:


+ Building overhead power lines, setting poles, pulling wire, building roads and pad landings, and running various pieces of equipment including excavators, backhoes, dozers, rope trucks, and tensioners


Licenses & Certifications:


+ Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position

+ Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card or ability to obtain prior to hire

+ Current DOT FMCSA 49 CFR Part 383 Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain prior to hire

+ Must have or obtain an attached State-issued Hazardous Materials endorsement within 90 days of hire

+ Must have or obtain tanker (N) and double-triple (T) endorsements and complete an Idaho Power Road Test within 30 days of hire

+ Crane certification or the ability to obtain within 90 days


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position lifts/carries up to 150 lbs. (75 lbs. in each hand) occasionally and 50-75 lbs. frequently to knuckle height. Lifting of up to 120 lbs. to shoulder height/overhead is required occasionally. Carrying is required up to 150 feet on ascents, descents, uneven, and sometimes loose terrain. Climbing of 8-foot ladders and onto/from trucks/trailers/heavy equipment is required. Drilling/packing off steep surfaces/rock faces is performed up to several times yearly while wearing safety fall restraints. Pushing up to 130 lbs. and pulling up to 110 lbs. is required occasionally. Hand tools are used, and attachment of blasting caps requires good manual dexterity. Shoveling is required to place stemming into 5-gallon buckets and to dig around utilities. Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical evaluation for the DOT medical certificate. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position. This job may require the performance of additional tasks assigned by company leaders or management. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Additional safety related training may be required. Additional safety related training may be required. Respond to emergencies in excess of normal working hours throughout IPC service area. Works overtime at the discretion of the supervisor. Must attend and successfully complete earliest scheduled crane certification class. Must be able to pass ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) background check to handle explosives.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This position requires the ability to work frequent hitches with overnight stays away from home, work overtime and respond to emergencies outside of normal working hours. The successful candidate must complete an Employee Possessor Questionnaire form within 30 days of hire to be submitted and approved by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms as a Possessor of Explosives. If unable to obtain the Possessor license, corrective action, up to and including termination of employment may occur.


Temporary employees are eligible to apply for internal job postings. In order for your current position to be held for your return, qualified employees must have supervisory approval to participate and have been in their current position for at least six months.
