Project Manager – Commercial Construction & Facilities
About MJZ Services
MJZ Services is a growing commercial construction, facilities maintenance, and specialty services company. We support customers across projects ranging from small service and repair work to larger renovations, capital projects, and general contracting.
Our approach is different from a traditional general contractor. We solve problems for our customers. Our Project Managers are expected to understand the customer's operation, identify solutions, communicate effectively, and take ownership of projects from initial request through final completion.
Position Summary
MJZ Services is seeking a Project Manager who is highly organized, resourceful, accountable, and motivated to grow with the company.
This position requires managing multiple customers and multiple projects simultaneously, including smaller $1,000–$5,000 service projects, $10,000–$20,000 projects, and increasingly larger commercial construction and capital projects.
We are not necessarily looking for the candidate with the most years of construction experience. Relevant experience is valuable, but we place significant importance on attitude, intelligence, coachability, communication, problem-solving ability, resourcefulness, and growth potential.
The right person must be able to move quickly and solve problems while still respecting MJZ's required approval processes and levels of authority.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage multiple active customers, projects, service requests, and priorities simultaneously.
- Manage commercial construction, maintenance, repair, renovation, and capital improvement projects from initial request through completion.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, procurement plans, and execution strategies.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, technicians, customers, and internal MJZ personnel.
- Maintain consistent communication with customers throughout each project.
- Identify problems early and develop practical solutions before they impact the customer.
- Obtain pricing, source materials, locate qualified subcontractors, and develop alternative solutions when traditional options are unavailable.
- Track project costs, commitments, schedules, change orders, documentation, and outstanding items.
- Ensure required customer and MJZ approvals are obtained before committing the company to additional costs or scope.
- Manage emergencies and changing priorities without allowing lower-priority projects or customers to be forgotten.
- Recognize customer needs that may extend beyond the original project scope and help MJZ develop solutions.
- Hold subcontractors and vendors accountable for quality, schedule, safety, and commitments.
- Provide accurate and timely project updates to MJZ leadership.
- Maintain professional documentation and project records.
- Participate in ongoing construction-management, technical, leadership, and project-management training.
What We're Looking For
The strongest candidate will demonstrate:
Ownership — Takes responsibility for results and does not default to blaming customers, subcontractors, coworkers, or circumstances.
Resourcefulness — Doesn't stop at "I don't know." Knows how to find information, people, vendors, materials, and alternative solutions.
Organization — Can manage many moving pieces across multiple customers without losing track of commitments.
Communication — Keeps customers and management informed, particularly when there is a problem.
Problem Solving — Can evaluate an unfamiliar situation, gather information, develop options, and determine the appropriate next step.
Coachability — Accepts feedback and actively works to improve.
Growth Mindset — Wants increasing responsibility and is interested in developing into a highly capable construction and facilities professional.
Process Discipline — Understands that being resourceful does not mean bypassing approval requirements, financial controls, documentation, or company procedures.
Customer Mindset — Looks beyond the immediate task and asks, "What does the customer actually need us to accomplish?"
Experience
Commercial construction, facilities management, project management, estimating, building maintenance, mechanical trades, or related experience is preferred.
However, MJZ will consider candidates with less traditional experience who demonstrate exceptional attitude, aptitude, organization, communication skills, resourcefulness, and potential for growth.
Experience coordinating subcontractors and managing multiple simultaneous projects is strongly preferred.
What Success Looks Like
A successful MJZ Project Manager becomes someone whom both MJZ leadership and our customers trust to take ownership of a problem and get it solved.
