Job Summary:
We are seeking a construction foreman to join our growing team. The construction foreman will be responsible for performing their job duties safely and professionally.
Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Coordinate daily tasks according to priorities and plans
- Perform scope of work and recognize work done outside of the scope
- Delegate individual responsibilities to crew members and subcontractors
- Lead a crew in everyday excavation projects to meet all safety needs, schedule timelines, and targeted profit margins
- Communication from the field to the PM and GC
- Train, manage and mentor employees and contractors
- Provide adequate resources and staff to meet project schedules, laws, regulations, best practices, and safety needs
- Emphasize safe use of tools, machinery, and equipment while providing training on safety gear and procedures
- Manage daily Jobsite and employee paperwork
- Resolve conflicts or miscommunications quickly and amicably
- Regularly report project status to project managers, site engineers, and other officials
- Schedule material deliveries
- Schedule and manage subcontractors
- Report injuries and other accidents to the PM.
- Lead morning and afternoon job-specific safety/huddle meetings
- Inspect equipment and perform everyday maintenance
- Notify mechanic, PM and fill out work orders for equipment repairs
- Loading and unloading Jobsite materials
- Maintain a neat and clean work area
- Operate (but not limited to) track-hoe, back-hoe, mini excavator, skid steer, dozer, haul truck, and trencher
- Excavate and backfill, in a safe manner, trenches for underground utilities
- Ability to operate around live utilities in a safe and cautious manner
- Placement of conduit in open trenches
- Potholing existing utilities
- Rigging and setting of structures
- Forming and pouring of concrete
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements and completed activities
- Observe and promote safety compliance
- Complete 20 hours of OVE required safety training annually
- Participate in random drug screenings
- Ensure the site is clean and organized at the end of each shift
- Manage rental equipment deliveries and returns
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience and knowledge of underground utility construction
- Customer service skills to communicate with inspectors and administration to develop a positive working relationship
- Analytical skills for handling unexpected issues and delays
- Initiative for generating business opportunities
- Leadership skills for delegating tasks to subcontractors and employees
- Speaking skills for providing clear orders to subcontractors and employees
- Technical skills for interpreting construction methods, specifications, and drawings
- History of working successfully with a team to complete a common goal, “team player”
- Time management skills to meet deadlines
- Writing skills to document work progress, change orders, and everyday reporting
- Regularly report project status to project managers and or GC
- Knowledge and experience in how to read and understand blueprints
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA guidelines, equipment, and construction procedures
- High school or equivalent education
- Valid Driver’s license with a good driving record
- subject to a pre-employment drug test and MVR
- Ability to follow instruction
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with the crew, leadership, and clients
- Must be able to meet physical demands of the position; ability to lift to 75 pounds
- Excellent vision or the use of prescription lenses
- Exceptional manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods in unfavorable weather conditions
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- Provide suggestions for continued improvement
- Minimum of 5 years of operating equipment
- CDL driver’s license
- Computer skills
- OSHA 30 and trench/excavation safety training / competent person training
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Must be able and willing to work outdoors and in inclement weather conditions
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to include: nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.
- Must be able to lift and carry materials of all shapes and sizes, weighing 40 to 90 pounds
- Must be able to maintain visual and audible contact with other crewman and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement
- Must be able to safely operate company vehicles or workaround heavy equipment and machinery
- Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl while performing work
- Must be able to ascend and descend ladders
- Must be able to work in small/confined areas
- Must be able to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and any applicable safety gear
Minimum Required Licenses/Certificates/Registrations:
- Valid driver’s license
- OSHA 10
