DLZ currently has an opportunity for a Construction Inspection / Construction Observer throughout North-Central Ohio, including the Marion, Bucyrus, Upper Sandusky, and Delaware areas. This position is well-suited for an experienced utility inspector, ODOT construction inspector, or a recent civil engineering graduate seeking hands-on experience in construction inspection and infrastructure projects.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform all phases of field inspection assignments in accordance with project specifications, plans, and applicable standards.
Interpret construction plans and specifications and communicate design intent to contractors.
Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with project requirements, plans, specifications, and quality standards.
Document field activities and prepare daily inspection reports using laptops, tablets, and other project software.
Communicate daily with contractors, project managers, engineers, and office personnel regarding project progress and issues.
Coordinate effectively with residents, property owners, and stakeholders affected by construction activities.
Work with project staff to review and document field changes and design revisions.
Measure and record installed quantities to support progress tracking and contractor payment estimates.
Maintain assigned vehicles, equipment, and inspection tools in proper working condition.
Follow all health, safety, and environmental requirements and maintain compliance with established safety procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification - One of the following is required:
Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or a related field, plus two (2) years of relevant construction inspection experience; or
High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant construction inspection experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications in asphalt, concrete, aggregate, compaction testing, or related construction materials inspection.
Experience inspecting water main installation, residential water service connections, underground utilities, roadway reconstruction, concrete construction, and asphalt paving.
ODOT Construction Inspection Prequalification.
NICET Highway Construction Inspection Level II or higher certification.
Experience performing ODOT, municipal, or utility construction inspection.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic field reporting software.
Physical & Working Conditions
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
Ability to safely traverse uneven terrain, excavation areas, and construction zones while complying with all applicable safety requirements.
Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screening is required.
