CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR - Land Development
WORK LOCATION: ON SITE LOS ANGELES, CA


The Land Development Division is seeking experienced Construction Inspector (Level I or II) and Technical Support Staff (Level 1-3) to provide construction-inspection services in support of Public Works permitted projects. The primary assignments will be within the Permit Office No. 1 (Baldwin Park) and Permit Office No. 2 (Valencia) service area, though work may extend to other regions in the County depending on workload. Inspectors will perform duties primarily in the field and from the permit office.

Construction Inspector responsibilities include:
  • Performing construction inspection, oversight, and enforcement to ensure compliance with permit documents, approved plans, and applicable construction standards.
  • Monitoring permitted activities for adherence to safety requirements.
  • Responding to complaints and inquiries from the public, elected officials, other agencies, Land Development Division staff, and other Public Works divisions.
  • Coordinating communication among all interested and affected parties, maintaining accurate records of work performed, and completing associated permit-administration tasks.
  • Monitoring construction activities to confirm proper maintenance and restoration of the public right-of-way.
  • Rejecting work that does not meet minimum standards or permit requirements and issuing notices to correct deficiencies.
  • Preparing inspection reports and maintaining accurate documentation, including photographic records.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with departmental staff, other agencies, contractors, and the public.
Minimum qualifications:
  • At least 1 year (CI I) or 4 years (CI II) of construction-inspection experience on horizontal infrastructure projects such as roadway, sewer, storm drain and utility construction.
  • Familiarity with, and working knowledge of, the Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction (Greenbook) and the Standard Plans for Public Works Construction, with experience applying both.
  • Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA Construction Safety Orders.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, special provisions, and other contract documents.
  • Ability to enforce temporary traffic controls in accordance with approved traffic-control plans, lane-requirement guidelines, or the California MUTCD, Chapter 6.
  • Ability to independently identify potential problems and propose effective solutions.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
