A 2% base salary increase is scheduled to take effect in the first full pay period beginning after July 1, 2026.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Construction Inspector to play a vital role in overseeing public works and capital projects. This position involves ensuring that all construction activities adhere to approved plans, specifications, safety requirements, and regulatory standards. As a key field representative, you will work closely with the City, contractors, engineers, utility providers, developers, and property owners to facilitate successful project delivery while safeguarding public interests. In this role, you will conduct detailed inspections of construction sites, evaluate materials and artistry, and monitor contractor compliance. The responsibilities will also include documenting project activities, conducting field testing and inspections, and preparing comprehensive project reports.

The ideal candidate for the Construction Inspector role possesses extensive technical knowledge of construction methods, materials, and relevant regulations at all levels of government. MINIMUM AND DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or a G.E.D. equivalent; two years of experience in construction inspection; six years of trades experience working on large public works construction projects; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

ABOUT THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is responsible for public works administration; city engineering; maintenance of public facilities located within the street right-of-way; design and construction of City-built capital improvements; administration of traffic facilities; providing electric service to new development in residential, commercial, and industrial areas; and related activities. THE SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants possessing the MOST DESIRABLE qualifications at each level, based on a screening of required application materials, including the completed Supplemental Questionnaire, will be invited to continue in the selection process. Video Appraisal Interview

Technical Interview:

Selected applicants will be invited to participate in a structured technical interview designed to evaluate job-related knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and proficiency in key competencies required for the position. Candidates will respond to a series of standardized questions, and their performance will be assessed using predetermined evaluation criteria to ensure a fair and consistent appraisal process.

Based on the Departments needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.

Eligible List: Once the appraisal is complete, HR will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
