Role Description

Do you enjoy working outdoors and contributing to community efforts that make the world greener? Join our dynamic team of Engineers and Arborists as we work together to improve the green infrastructure of NYC. We are seeking a Construction Inspector to join our team and work on projects for NYC Parks within the five boroughs of NYC. This full-time position includes intermittent opportunities for overtime work. You will use your technical knowledge and experience to guide the Citys tree preservation and street tree programs. As you grow with Arcadis, you will become involved with other NYC Parks programs and City agencies focusing on urban forests and natural systems such as the Staten Island Bluebelt and park restoration projects.

Role Accountabilities

In this role, you will conduct daily inspections, supervise and control construction activities to ensure the overall safety of the site, compliance with permit conditions, and coordination with other city agencies is being maintained. You will closely monitor and supervise the performance of the contractors to ensure they adhere to technical requirements and maintain a high level of responsiveness and effectiveness. In addition, you will be responsible for conducting on-site measurements, tracking quantities, and performing design work before and during the construction process. These tasks will help you accurately assess the progress and quality of the project. You will regularly report to the resident engineer, project lead, and professional engineer PE overseeing the programs to keep them informed. This will ensure effective communication and decision-making throughout projects.

Participation in a green infrastructure mentorship program is required, where you will gain valuable knowledge and skills related to environmentally friendly construction practices, allowing you to contribute to sustainable and eco-conscious initiatives. Additionally, you will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining daily, weekly, and expert tracking records
  • Verifying quantities and line items in field with contractors and client
  • Holding and attending field meetings with both contractors and owners to discuss progress, schedule, and work remaining
  • Functioning as an ambassador for the citys urban forest resources during interaction with the citys residents and landowners
  • Administering all H&S procedures as required by the owner and as detailed in the H&S manual

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft SharePoint, along with excellent communication abilities both verbal and written. You should be capable of working independently and collaboratively within a diverse team, effectively representing Arcadis and our client agencies in interactions with clients, local agencies, and the community. Proficiency in reading and understanding design plans, specifications, and shop drawing submittals is essential. Additionally, keen attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to be mentored and comprehend green infrastructure in NYC are crucial attributes for success in this role.
