CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR
WORK LOCATION: SEATTLE, WA


Minimum Requirements
Associate's degree or technical training in civil engineering or a related field
5 years of relevant experience

Duties: Inspect construction activities including trackwork, civil structures, concrete works, and associated rail infrastructure components; verify compliance with approved construction drawings, specifications, method statements, and inspection test plans (ITPs). l
Monitor workmanship quality, dimensional tolerances, material usage, and installation procedures; identify and document defects or non-conformances such as cracks, misalignments, improper installations, or safety hazards.
Inspect, document, and verify the project is constructed in conformance with contract plans and specifications.
Confirm that materials used — concrete, steel, aggregates, etc. — meet project specifications and approved submittals; witness and record testing activities such as concrete strength tests, soil compaction, and other relevant quality tests.
Monitor curing, installation, and assembly processes to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
Implement construction inspection, testing, and contract compliance programs on small and major public works projects in and around transit facilities; this work involves inspections of construction activities, materials, equipment, and machinery installation with occasional system start-up and commissioning.
Maintain accurate inspector daily records of the work, including personnel, equipment, materials, quantities, site conditions, and specialty trades.
Maintain detailed daily inspection reports, checklists, and photographic records of construction progress and quality.
Review or prepare interim progress reports for contractor payments; prepare reports on labor, material, and equipment on site.
Issue non-conformance reports (NCRs) and follow up on corrective actions; review and endorse quality documentation, test results, and contractor submissions.
Perform non-conformance reporting along with oversight and documentation duties for the resolution of identified issues.
Recommend work stoppage for noncompliance with technical specifications or codes.
Enforce adherence to project safety plans and regulatory requirements on-site; report unsafe conditions or practices immediately and promote a culture of safety awareness; participate in safety meetings and audits as required.
Monitor construction sites for safety violations; assist in maintaining, supporting, and promoting a safe work environment while complying with the project's safety rules, policies, and procedures.
Visit construction sites and inspect each stage of construction up to completion; interpret plans, specifications, and codes and verify contract work is performed in accordance with them.
Review project plans, schedules, and specifications and prioritize assignments accordingly.
Liaise with engineers, designers, contractors, and client representatives to facilitate smooth project execution; support audits, inspections, and acceptance tests as needed; adapt to changing construction schedules and shift requirements to ensure continuous inspection coverage.
Coordinate between contractors, clients, managers, and office employees; prepare field note records for progress payment.
Provide lead direction to and closely oversee work performed by lower-level Transit Construction Management personnel.
May allocate inspection resources and supervise inspectors; coordinate test laboratory activities and compare verification test results with results from the contractor's laboratory; arrange, coordinate, and oversee technical inspections for conformance to specification requirements.
