Description
This position is responsible for on-site inspections of public and private infrastructure to ensure compliance with engineering design standards.
- Inspects a variety of construction projects to include water, sewer, curb and gutter, sidewalk, streets, storm water, and driveway projects to ensure compliance with approved specifications and drawings.
- Tests new water, sewer and force mains.
- Maintains a daily log book and photographs for projects.
- Corresponds with utility companies and contractors in scheduling inspection visits and to deliver notifications of violations.
- Reviews submittals and request for information on projects to ensure compliance with contract documents.
- Inspects construction projects to ensure compliance with the Subdivision Permit, sitework components of Building Permit, and Land Disturbance Permit.
- Prepares punch list and performs final inspections.
- Reviews construction drawings and specifications as needed.
- Performs related duties.
Requirements
- Knowledge of departmental and city policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of engineering design standards.
- Knowledge of methods, equipment, procedures, and standard practices of municipal public works operations.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Knowledge of land surveying principles.
- Knowledge of erosion control best management practices.
- Skill in reading and interpreting construction plans and blueprints.
- Skill in performing construction inspections.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work and be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years' experience or service.
- Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain the appropriate state certification for the type of inspection(s) conducted (e.g. minimum NPDES Certification Level 1A required, Level 1B preferred).
Salary Description
$25.36/hour
