Job Description

Location: Sioux Falls, SD (traveling required)HME Construction is seeking a dependable, hardworking Construction Laborer to assist with daily construction activities on multifamily housing and senior living projects. The Construction Laborer will work closely with the Project Manager, Superintendent, subcontractors, and other field personnel to maintain a safe, clean, and organized jobsite while helping ensure projects are completed on schedule and meet HME Construction's quality standards.The ideal candidate is motivated, willing to learn, takes pride in their work, and can work effectively as part of a construction team.The Construction Laborer will report to the Superintendent.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist the Superintendent and subcontractors with daily construction activities as directed.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobs site, including picking up debris and managing construction materials.Load, unload, move, and organize building materials, tools, and equipment.Assist with site preparation, demolition, excavation support, and general construction tasks.Help with material deliveries, inventory, and distribution of materials throughout the jobsite.Operate basic hand tools and power tools safely, as trained and authorized.Assist with temporary protection, site fencing, signage, and other jobsite needs.Identify and report unsafe conditions, potential hazards, and damaged equipment to the Superintendent.Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and project-specific safety procedures.Assist with project punch lists, final cleanup, and preparation for inspections or owner walkthroughs.Protect completed work and materials from damage.Perform other construction-related duties as assigned.REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods.Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.Must have reliable transportation.Must demonstrate dependable attendance.Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with the Superintendent and project team.Willingness to learn construction methods, tools, equipment, and safety practices.Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.Valid driver's license preferred.OSHA 10-hour construction training preferred, or willingness to obtain certification.Previous construction labor experience preferred but not required.SAFETY EXPECTATIONS:Safety is a top priority at HME Construction. All employees are expected to:Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including high-visibility safety vests and hard hats when required.Follow all posted jobsite safety rules and attend required safety meetings.Use tools and equipment only when properly trained and authorized.Maintain clean walkways and keep exits, access points, and work areas clear.Immediately report injuries, near misses, unsafe conditions, and property damage.Stop work and notify the Superintendent when an unsafe condition is identified.PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:Work primarily at active construction sites, including multifamily and senior living projects.Perform physical tasks in indoor and outdoor environments.Work around construction equipment, elevated work areas, noise, dust, and changing site conditions.Work a full-time schedule, with occasional overtime based on project demands.KEY PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:Safety: Consistently follows HME safety policies and procedures.Reliability: Arrives on time, maintains dependable attendance, and is ready to work.Productivity: Completes assigned tasks efficiently and follows directions.Quality: Takes pride in workmanship and protects completed construction.Teamwork: Communicates respectfully and supports the Superintendent and project team.Jobsite Organization: Maintains a clean, professional, and orderly jobsite.HME is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action employer.
