Construction Manager - T&D

A leading, employee-owned engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm is seeking a Construction Project Manager to support utility-scale transmission and distribution (T&D) projects. This role is responsible for leading field execution across substation, transmission line, and grid infrastructure projects from pre-construction through commissioning and closeout.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day construction execution for transmission lines, substations, and utility infrastructure projects
• Champion a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA and company HSE standards
• Manage project controls including scheduling, cost forecasting, and earned value (EVM) tracking
• Coordinate across engineering, procurement, and construction teams to ensure seamless EPC delivery
• Develop and manage project plans, budgets, schedules, and performance metrics
• Oversee subcontractor procurement, bid processes, contract negotiations, and change orders
• Administer contract workflows including RFIs, submittals, change management, and claims mitigation
• Ensure compliance with utility standards, environmental regulations, and permitting requirements
• Interface with utility clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders throughout project lifecycle
• Monitor construction progress and provide detailed reporting to leadership and clients
• Support commissioning, energization, and project startup activities
• Implement and oversee QA/QC programs to ensure adherence to project specifications
• Manage site logistics, materials, equipment, and field resources
• Lead project closeout, turnover documentation, and warranty administration
• Conduct safety, quality, financial, and progress audits
• Mentor and develop junior staff, field engineers, and construction personnel

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 7+ years of construction project management experience, preferably in T&D or utility infrastructure
• Experience with transmission lines, substations, or grid modernization projects strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of EPC project delivery and construction management practices
• Proficiency with scheduling and cost control tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project)
• Knowledge of earned value management (EVM) and project financial tracking
• Familiarity with utility standards, environmental compliance, and permitting processes
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
• Working knowledge of GAAP and project financial reporting
• Willingness to travel based on project requirements
