S&ME is looking for an eager and dedicated full-time Construction Materials Professional to join our Construction Services team in Huntsville, Alabama.     What You Will Do

    As a Construction Materials Professional you are vital in guaranteeing the integrity and safety of construction endeavors by evaluating and confirming the characteristics and quality of materials used. Working under the supervision of a Licensed Engineer you will coordinate field explorations, field logging of soil samples, perform engineering calculations/design, prepare proposals and reports, and provide project and client support.

    • Testing construction materials: Perform tests and oversee special inspections of materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and others to ensure they meet project specifications and industry standards.
    • Analyzing construction plans and specifications: Verify that they align with project goals before conducting field observations.
    • Recording and managing field activities: Document detailed observations and test results during project execution using Metafield® or other management systems daily for efficient data handling and coordination.
    • Preparing reports and proposals: Help draft reports and proposals for smaller projects ensuring thorough and accurate assessments and documentation.
    • Communicating daily: Interact with management, contractors, and clients to maintain project transparency and provide regular updates on progress.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Bachelors degree in Construction Management or a similar technical field

    Experience

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience in construction materials testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt
    • Project management experience or interest in project management a plus

    Certifications

    • Active Construction Materials industry certifications such as American Concrete Institute (ACI) Field Testing Grade I, Strength Testing Technician, Laboratory Technician, and/or International Code Council (ICC) Special Inspector Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils

    Key Competencies

    • Basic math and communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing using the English language)

    Working Conditions and Physical Demands

    This role involves hands-on work in outdoor environments and with Company-provided Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). You'll need to be comfortable with:

    • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions
    • Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing potentially up to 12 hours a day
    • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
    • Working outside of normal business hours and traveling, typically out-of-town and/or overnight as project needs arise
