Position Overview

 

The Project Coordinator supports project management and field operations by assisting with scheduling, cost tracking, quantity reporting, safety and quality compliance, and project documentation. This role is designed as a developmental position to build knowledge of construction operations, project controls, and estimating, with a career path toward Project Manager, Estimator, or Operations leadership.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


Project & Field Coordination

Assist Project Managers and Field Foremen with daily project coordination and execution.
Support daily time entry and production tracking in B2W.
Track daily quantities and maintain accurate production records.
Assist with daily equipment inspections and documentation.
Provide technical and administrative support to field operations as needed.

Safety, Quality & Compliance
Support enforcement of company safety standards and policies.
Assist with safety documentation and disciplinary write-ups as directed.
Help ensure roadway paving and construction activities meet quality control (QC) standards and project specifications.

Scheduling & Reporting
Prepare and distribute weekly project schedules.
Maintain quantity tracking sheets and daily/weekly production reports.
Assist in tracking project progress against schedules and work plans.
Support communication between field teams and project management.

Materials, Equipment & Supplies
Coordinate ordering of project materials and supplies.
Track material usage and assist with inventory and delivery coordination.
Communicate equipment and resource needs to project leadership.
Cost Tracking & Project Controls (Developmental)
Learn daily job cost tracking and cost reporting.
Assist with monitoring labor, equipment, and material costs.
Support basic project cost control and forecasting efforts.
Learn how cost impacts production, scheduling, and profitability.

Technical & Project Knowledge Development
Learn to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
Develop understanding of work sequencing and constructability.
Assist with project documentation, RFIs, and internal reporting as skills develop.

Estimating & Preconstruction Support (Future Growth)
Learn estimating best practices and company bidding standards.
Assist with quantity takeoffs.
Help set up projects in HeavyBid.
Learn bid cost structures and estimating workflows.
Provide support to Estimating and General Manager functions as part of long-term development.

Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong organizational and coordination skills.
Effective communication with field crews and management.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office; willingness to learn construction software.
Interest in developing project management and estimating skills.

 

Qualifications

 

Required

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of road construction experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead crews and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong knowledge of road construction practices, equipment, and safety standards.
  • Ability to work long hours, weekends, and in varied weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain, if applicable).

Preferred

Experience in construction, roadway paving, or heavy civil projects.
Familiarity with B2W, or similar systems (preferred, not required).
Education or coursework in construction management, engineering, or related fields.

 

Work Requirements

  • Must be 18 years in age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls.
  • Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations.

 

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in construction and paving.
  • Ability to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear.
  • Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hand and arms above their shoulders.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move any where up to 50 pounds.

 

Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock or burn.
  • The noise level in some areas of the work environment may be loud, but is typically moderate.
  • Combination of office and field-based work.
    Regular jobsite visits required.
    May require extended hours based on project demands.
