Position Summary

DAWSON is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer to support the execution of federal construction projects throughout Hawaii and the Pacific region. The Project Engineer will serve as a key member of the project delivery team, providing technical, administrative, and quality management support throughout all phases of construction.

This position will have a strong emphasis on Quality Control (QC) and construction compliance, ensuring projects are executed in accordance with contract requirements, specifications, approved submittals, and applicable federal regulations. The ideal candidate is a degreed engineer with strong organizational skills, construction knowledge, and a desire to grow into a quality management leadership role.

Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is not required.

Annual Salary: $72000.00 - $115,000.00 based on interview and experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Engineering

  • Support Project Managers and Superintendents in the planning, execution, and closeout of federal construction projects.
  • Assist with project scheduling, procurement tracking, cost control, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and contract requirements for compliance and constructability.
  • Prepare and manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, design reviews, meeting minutes, and project correspondence.
  • Track project deliverables and maintain project documentation in accordance with company and client requirements.
  • Support project progress reporting and schedule updates.

Quality Control

  • Assist in the implementation and administration of project-specific Quality Control Plans.
  • Conduct daily quality inspections and document construction activities.
  • Verify work is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, UFCs, UFGS requirements, and applicable codes.
  • Maintain quality control documentation, including inspection reports, testing logs, deficiency logs, and quality records.
  • Coordinate and track preparatory, initial, and follow-up inspections.
  • Support testing and commissioning activities and verify completion of corrective actions.
  • Assist with managing subcontractor quality performance and ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
  • Participate in government inspections and quality assurance meetings.

Federal Construction Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with USACE, NAVFAC, DoD, and other federal agency requirements.
  • Assist with contract administration and documentation associated with design-build and design-bid-build projects.
  • Support project teams during audits, inspections, and turnover activities.
  • Maintain familiarity with federal construction standards including UFCs, EM 385-1-1, and agency-specific requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • 1-3 years of construction, engineering, or project management experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit and Bluebeam are highly desirable.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to access military installations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience on federal construction projects with USACE, NAVFAC, Air Force, Army, or other federal agencies.
  • Experience with Quality Control programs and inspection processes.
  • Familiarity with design-build project delivery.
  • Knowledge of RMS, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar construction management software.
  • Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
  • Current USACE Construction Quality Management (CQM-C) certification or ability to obtain upon hire.

  • Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb ladders, and access construction areas.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
