About the Opportunity:

\n

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer – Construction to join our Pre-Construction team and support the development and execution of large, complex Building Automation projects.

\n

This is an excellent remote contract-to-hire opportunity for a construction/project engineering professional with strong estimating, technical review, subcontractor coordination, and project costing experience. The manager has a strong intent to convert a successful contractor to a permanent employee, with performance during the initial contract period playing a key role in the conversion decision.

What You’ll Do:

\n

• \n
• Develop turnkey estimates for Building Automation projects.
• \n
• Prioritize projects and tasks to meet sales schedules and deadlines.
• \n
• Review customer specifications, drawings, and requirements to ensure technical compatibility and competitive proposals.
• \n
• Analyze, document, and communicate technical terms and conditions in accordance with company standards.
• \n
• Coordinate and verify subcontractor quotations and scopes of work.
• \n
• Develop detailed scope letters and optimal system designs.
• \n
• Attend and lead pre-bid meetings and site walk-throughs for potential projects.
• \n
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Sales throughout the tendering process to identify cost-saving opportunities.
• \n
• Reconcile final job costs following internal and external project review meetings.
• \n
• Support Sales calls and project qualification activities as needed.
• \n
• Develop and maintain strong subcontractor and vendor relationships.
• \n
• Effectively transition awarded projects to the Operations team and identify discrepancies between plans and specifications.
• \n
• Support vendor scopes, pricing, and reporting activities.
• \n
• Participate in job shadowing and cross-training as needed.
• \n
• Complete required technical training to increase proficiency and expand project knowledge.
• \n
• Advocate for new initiatives and process improvements within the Pre-Construction organization.

What We’re Looking For:

• \n
• 3+ years of relevant experience with strong system application and product knowledge.
• \n
• Experience with construction estimating, project costing, or pre-construction activities.
• \n
• Ability to interpret customer specifications, drawings, plans, and technical requirements.
• \n
• Experience coordinating subcontractor quotes, scopes, and pricing.
• \n
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and project coordination skills.
• \n
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting sales schedules.
• \n
• Strong collaboration skills with Sales, Engineering, Operations, vendors, and subcontractors.
• \n
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while effectively communicating with project teams.
• \n
• Willingness to complete technical training and continuously develop product and system expertise.

Reporting Structure:

This position reports directly to the Pre-Construction Manager and plays a key role in supporting project costing, estimating, technical review, and pre-construction processes.
