Position Overview
GTI Energy is seeking a Project Engineer to support capital projects, facility expansions, construction management, and infrastructure improvements across our Real Estate and Construction portfolio. This role is responsible for coordinating contractors, managing schedules, reviewing drawings, tracking budgets, administering project documentation, and ensuring successful execution from concept through turnover.

The ideal candidate will come from either a General Contractor environment or an internal Facilities / Construction team within a manufacturing company. This role requires strong field coordination capability, technical understanding of building systems, and the ability to manage multiple fast-moving projects in occupied industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution & Construction Management

  • Support end-to-end execution of construction, expansion, retrofit, and facilities improvement projects across GTI locations
  • Coordinate project activities from planning, design, permitting, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout
  • Assist in managing multiple concurrent projects including office buildouts, warehouse expansions, manufacturing line installations, utility upgrades, and site improvements
  • Ensure projects are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to GTI quality expectations
  • Drive urgency and accountability with contractors, vendors, consultants, and internal stakeholders

Contractor & Vendor Coordination

  • Serve as day-to-day point of contact for General Contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and equipment vendors
  • Coordinate field activities across trades including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, structural, fire protection, HVAC, controls, and civil contractors
  • Monitor contractor manpower, progress, sequencing, and schedule adherence
  • Resolve field conflicts, access issues, and scope coordination problems quickly
  • Support bid walks, contractor selection, and vendor performance evaluations

Scheduling & Milestone Management

  • Build and maintain project schedules, milestone trackers, and look-ahead plans
  • Identify critical path risks and proactively drive recovery plans when schedules slip
  • Coordinate shutdown windows, production constraints, and phased construction plans in active facilities
  • Communicate schedule changes and impacts clearly to leadership and plant stakeholders
  • Support high-speed execution in growth-driven environments with compressed timelines

Budgeting, Cost Control & Financial Management

  • Track project budgets, commitments, change orders, forecasts, and final cost projections
  • Review contractor pay applications, invoices, and progress billing for accuracy
  • Assist with capital appropriation requests, spend reporting, and ROI justifications
  • Identify cost savings opportunities without compromising schedule or quality
  • Support disciplined change management and scope control throughout project lifecycle

Design Review & Technical Coordination

  • Review architectural, civil, MEP, and structural drawings for constructability and operational fit
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure designs support manufacturing flow, safety, utilities, and future scalability
  • Assist in layout planning for production lines, warehousing, office space, material flow, and employee support areas
  • Ensure design packages are coordinated across disciplines prior to construction release
  • Support equipment installation planning and facility readiness for manufacturing operations

Permitting, Compliance & Safety

  • Coordinate permits, inspections, AHJ interactions, and occupancy approvals as required
  • Ensure projects comply with building codes, OSHA standards, fire/life safety requirements, and company policies
  • Maintain strong contractor safety expectations and field compliance standards
  • Support environmental, zoning, and site development requirements where applicable

Facilities & Manufacturing Environment Support

  • Partner with plant leadership to execute projects within live manufacturing environments with minimal disruption
  • Coordinate utility tie-ins, shutdowns, temporary services, relocations, and operational continuity planning
  • Support infrastructure upgrades including electrical service, compressed air, chilled water, HVAC, fire suppression, security, and IT systems
  • Understand facility constraints common to fabrication, welding, paint, assembly, and warehouse operations

Documentation, Reporting & Controls

  • Maintain RFIs, submittals, meeting minutes, action logs, drawings, permits, punch lists, and closeout documentation
  • Build executive-ready project status reports including budget, schedule, risks, and next steps
  • Track decisions, owner responsibilities, and contractor deliverables
  • Maintain organized records for audits, warranty claims, and future facility reference

Commissioning, Turnover & Closeout

  • Support startup, commissioning, and turnover of completed projects to Operations and Facilities teams
  • Coordinate punch list completion, training, O&M manuals, as-builts, and warranty documentation
  • Verify systems are functioning as intended prior to final acceptance
  • Ensure seamless handoff to plant stakeholders and end users

Continuous Improvement & Strategic Growth Support

  • Improve GTI project delivery standards, contractor management systems, and construction processes
  • Support future greenfield sites, acquisitions, plant launches, and large-scale expansion programs
  • Benchmark best practices from industrial construction, manufacturing facilities, and fast-growth operators
  • Contribute to long-term facility planning and capacity expansion strategies
