Construction Project Manager

Location: Akron, OH
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire

The Construction Project Manager supports the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Project Manager or Program Manager in overseeing day-to-day construction operations from pre-construction through project completion and warranty closeout. This role is responsible for managing construction safety, quality, schedule, cost control, contracts, subcontractors, suppliers, field staff, and client relationships to ensure the successful execution of EPC, Construction Management, Construction, and Program Management projects.

The Construction Project Manager may oversee a single project or multiple concurrent projects and is accountable for project execution in compliance with company policies, contractual requirements, and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution & Leadership

  • Oversee day-to-day construction activities and ensure successful execution of one or more projects simultaneously.

  • Support overall project execution from approved budget and schedule through completion.

  • Provide leadership in project planning, scheduling, estimating, cost development, and establishment of critical project objectives.

  • Manage multiple projects of varying size (approximately ***K to ***M) involving multiple disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, and civil.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Adhere to company safety programs, training, and policies while promoting a strong safety and health culture.

  • Implement and oversee project safety, health, and quality assurance plans.

  • Perform safety, quality, progress, and financial audits and assessments as required.

  • Oversee non-conformance reporting and corrective action processes.

  • Verify that all required project permits, licenses, insurance, bonding, and regulatory requirements are obtained and maintained.

Contracts, Procurement & Risk Management

  • Negotiate prime contracts, CM contracts, subcontracts, and change orders.

  • Direct and oversee subcontractor and supplier RFP and bid processes, including prequalification, evaluation, and award recommendations.

  • Participate in internal and external project risk reviews and coordinate with Legal as required.

  • Implement assigned sections of the Project Execution Plan, including subcontracting and procurement plans.

  • Manage downstream contract administration, including RFIs, submittals, change management, claims mitigation, and contract closeout.

Financial & Schedule Management

  • Facilitate project cost reporting, scheduling, earned value tracking, and forecasting.

  • Collaborate with project controls to maintain schedules, cost forecasts, and cash flow projections.

  • Review and approve project budgets, financial reports, and status reports; present updates to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Manage composite crew rates, labor burdens, unit rates, and construction cost metrics.

Staffing & Workforce Management

  • Develop construction staffing plans and manage project staffing levels.

  • Onboard and manage craft and field supervision as required.

  • Maintain accurate craft classifications, progression records, and labor compliance.

  • Uphold craft competency, training standards, and workforce development initiatives.

  • Provide mentorship, training, and performance feedback to project team members, including interns, coordinators, and assistant project managers.

Coordination & Client Relations

  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships and serve as a key point of contact for project-related matters.

  • Interface with client leadership to provide timely and accurate project updates.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to coordinate the development and distribution of engineering deliverables.

  • Coordinate commissioning, startup, and turnover activities with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.

  • Support communications with governmental, industry, public entities, and building trades as required.

Project Closeout & Documentation

  • Oversee project documentation, reporting, turnover, warranty administration, and record retention.

  • Direct site mobilization and demobilization planning and execution.

  • Review construction field reports and ensure accurate progress tracking.

Additional Duties

  • Manage construction equipment inventory and utilization.

  • May be assigned to work at a project site based on project requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned in compliance with company policies and standards.


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Construction, Engineering, or a related field and a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant construction project management experience; or

  • Equivalent combination of applicable experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Minimum of four (4) years of direct project management experience required.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).

  • Experience with document control, scheduling, cost control, and project management software preferred.

Professional Skills

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently.

  • Proven leadership and team collaboration capabilities.
