Construction Project Manager

Contract-to-Hire | Newton, MA

Position Overview

The Construction Project Manager supports the EPC Project Manager or Program Manager in overseeing day-to-day construction activities from pre-construction through project completion and warranty closeout. This role is responsible for executing construction projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contractual, quality, and regulatory requirements.

The Construction Project Manager will manage multiple aspects of EPC, Construction Management, Construction, and Program Management projects, including safety, quality, cost control, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, documentation, and client relations. This position may be assigned to an active project site based on project needs.


Key Responsibilities

Project Execution & Leadership

  • Oversee day-to-day construction activities for one or multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Support development and implementation of Project Execution Plans, including construction execution, quality assurance, safety & health, staffing, procurement, and subcontracting plans.

  • Direct project planning, scheduling, estimating, cost development, and establishment of critical project objectives.

  • Coordinate engineering deliverables to align with construction schedules and project requirements.

  • Manage project setup, work breakdown structures, field progress tracking, and project closeout activities.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Promote and enforce company safety programs, policies, and training requirements.

  • Manage Safety & Health performance of project teams, subcontractors, and field staff.

  • Conduct project safety, quality, progress, and financial audits as required.

  • Oversee non-conformance reporting and corrective action processes.

  • Verify project permits, licenses, insurance, bonding, and regulatory compliance.

Contracts, Cost & Risk Management

  • Negotiate prime contracts, CM contracts, subcontracts, change orders, and amendments.

  • Manage RFP and bid processes, including scope development, bidder prequalification, evaluation, and award recommendations.

  • Administer downstream contracts, RFIs, submittals, change management, invoicing, and closeout.

  • Manage earned value, schedule performance, cost metrics, and project financial reporting.

  • Participate in project risk reviews and coordinate with Legal as required.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships and serve as a primary point of contact for project-related matters.

  • Prepare and present project status reports, cash flow forecasts, and budget updates to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support communication with governmental, industry, public, and community entities as required.

Field Operations & Labor Management

  • Develop construction staffing plans and manage field personnel and craft supervision.

  • Manage labor classifications, labor burdens, benefits, and compliance with labor laws.

  • Develop and implement project labor agreements and manage building trades relationships.

  • Oversee materials management, equipment inventory, logistics, and site mobilization/demobilization.

  • Manage composite crew rates, unit rates, labor productivity, and installation forecasting.

Mentorship & Team Development

  • Mentor and train interns, construction coordinators, assistant project managers, craft supervision, and field teams.

  • Provide performance feedback to department managers and support workforce development initiatives.

  • Uphold craft competency standards and support ongoing training and advancement opportunities.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction, Engineering, or a related field and 7+ years of relevant construction project management experience
    OR

    • Equivalent applicable experience in lieu of degree.

  • PMP certification preferred.

  • Multiple years of experience on active construction project sites or program management environments.

  • Experience in one or more of the following industries preferred: aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transportation, transmission & distribution, or water.

  • Strong working knowledge of construction scheduling, cost control, document control, and project management software.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).

  • Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong organizational and analytical abilities.

  • Proven ability to manage high volumes of work and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must meet company driving requirements.
