Job Title: Construction Project Manager

Job Description

This role oversees capital expenditure facility repair projects within a fast-paced industrial plant environment. The Construction Project Manager leads projects from initiation through completion, ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, and within budget. The position requires hands-on ownership of planning and execution, strong safety leadership, and the ability to coordinate multiple contractors and trades in a complex industrial or chemical manufacturing setting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage capital expenditure facility repair projects ranging from approximately $100,000 to $500,000 in value.
  • Take full ownership of project planning and execution rather than relying on dedicated planners to develop schedules and plans.
  • Organize project teams, assign responsibilities, and coordinate the work of subcontractors and trades in the field.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor project schedules using tools such as Microsoft Project or Smartsheet to ensure milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Manage project budgets, track costs, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within approved financial parameters.
  • Oversee construction activities in heavy industrial or plant environments, including facility equipment removal, decommissioning, and related work.
  • Enforce strict safety standards on-site, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and OSHA compliance, and ensure all contractors and team members follow safety procedures.
  • Conduct safety checks and intervene when necessary, including stopping work or shutting down operations if conditions are unsafe.
  • Review and interpret CAD drawings and other technical documentation to plan and execute construction and repair activities accurately.
  • Coordinate project documentation, including drawings, hard copy files, and digital records, ensuring information is accurate and accessible.
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders about project status, risks, and issues, and adjust plans as needed to keep projects on track.
  • Hold contractors and field teams accountable for quality, schedule adherence, and compliance with safety and project standards.
  • Support estimating activities by using estimating software and contributing to the development of project scopes, cost estimates, and schedules.
  • Ensure that all work meets plant standards and aligns with operational requirements in a chemical manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
  • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the project team and across the job site.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience serving as the person in charge of construction or industrial projects, rather than only supporting roles with separate planners.
  • Hands-on project management experience with projects in the range of approximately $100,000 to $500,000.
  • Strong experience in heavy industrial or plant environments, such as facility equipment removal, decommissioning, or similar industrial construction.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate construction projects from start to finish.
  • Strong safety leadership experience, including enforcement of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and OSHA compliance on-site.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and field teams, including coordinating trades and holding teams accountable for performance and safety.
  • Proficiency with project scheduling and execution, including developing timelines, tracking progress, and delivering projects on time and on budget.
  • Experience with estimating and the use of estimating software for construction or industrial projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project or comparable project planning software.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for tracking project information and data.
  • Ability to read, understand, and work from CAD drawings and other technical documents.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, making sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety as a top priority in all project activities.
  • Relevant hands-on experience that provides the necessary project management and industrial construction skill set, even without a formal degree.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in facility repair projects, particularly within industrial or plant settings.
  • Experience managing projects specifically in the $100,000 to $500,000 range.
  • Proficiency with additional planning tools such as Smartsheet or similar software.
  • Advanced familiarity with CAD drawings and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering and design teams.
  • Formal education in construction management, engineering, or a related field (while experience is highly valued, related education is a plus).

Work Environment

This position is 100% on-site in a chemical manufacturing plant with a unique and fast-paced atmosphere where people are frequently on the move and engaged in hands-on work. The schedule follows a four-day workweek, typically consisting of four 10-hour days from Monday through Thursday. The plant environment is heavy industrial, involving facility equipment, decommissioning activities, and complex repair projects. Safety is the highest priority, and operations may be halted if conditions are not safe. The work relies on a mix of digital and physical documentation, with approximately half of project files maintained as hard copies and the other half in CAD and electronic formats. The role offers a high degree of independence, with a leadership style that is hands-off and provides freedom to run projects while maintaining rigorous safety and operational standards.
