Construction Safety Manager
Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings & Steel Erection
Location: Greensboro / Winston-Salem Metro, NC (field + office; regional travel to active job sites)
Compensation: $80K–$110K base plus bonus potential, company truck, and full benefits
About Our Client
Our client is a well-established pre-engineered metal building erector based in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina. Owner-operated since 2016, the company has built a strong reputation for quality execution, early design-build collaboration, and trusted partnerships with leading general contractors and manufacturers. They specialize exclusively in PEMB erection and furnish-and-erect projects, with no GC work or structural steel distractions — which has allowed them to become a go-to specialist in their market.
The company is a minority/woman-owned business with deep technical expertise on the engineering side and a culture that values entrepreneurial thinking, professionalism, and long-term relationships. As they continue to grow, they're investing in a dedicated safety leader to protect their crews, strengthen their culture, and keep every job site running clean.
The Opportunity
Our client is hiring a Construction Safety Manager to own the safety function across all active job sites. This is a hands-on, field-forward role for someone who understands the realities of steel erection, fall protection, rigging, crane operations, and OSHA 1926 Subpart R and who can lead by presence, not just paperwork. You'll be the person crews trust to keep them safe and the person ownership trusts to keep the company compliant and protected.
What You'll Do
· Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company's site-specific safety plans and overall safety management system
· Conduct periodic site inspections across all active job sites to ensure safety procedures are in place and being followed
· Plan, lead, and participate in job site safety meetings and toolbox talks
· Train field crews and office staff on safe equipment operation, fall protection, rigging, and steel erection procedures
· Ensure OSHA compliance — with particular focus on the standards that govern steel erection, fall protection, and crane/rigging operations
· Follow up with subcontractors and field leadership to ensure proper safety and disciplinary procedures are upheld
· Investigate accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions; interface with workers' compensation claims and manage return-to-work strategies
· Record and compile safety data, maintain logs and manuals, monitor equipment, and schedule maintenance
· Maintain the company's contingency and recovery plans
· Partner with ownership, superintendents, and foremen to build a culture where safety is baked into how the crews work
What Our Client Is Looking For
Ideal background:
· 4+ years in construction safety and health program management
· Direct experience in steel erection, PEMB, structural steel, or a related trade where fall protection and rigging are daily realities
· Strong working knowledge of OSHA (especially steel erection and fall protection standards), local safety laws, and other regulatory agencies
Also strong candidates:
· Safety professionals from commercial or civil construction looking to specialize in steel/metal building work
· Experienced field leaders (superintendents/foremen) who've moved into a dedicated safety role
Required attributes:
· Sound, ethical judgment and the backbone to enforce standards on the job site
· Strong leadership and communication skills; able to earn the respect of veteran crews
· Ability to work independently and manage safety across multiple simultaneous projects
· Bachelor's degree preferred; relevant certifications (OSHA 30, CHST, CSP, etc.) a plus
· CPR/First Aid certified
· Proficient in MS Office Suite
Compensation & Benefits
· Base salary commensurate with experience
· Bonus potential
· Company truck, gas card, and expense coverage
· Full benefits package (medical, etc.)
· The chance to build and own the safety function at a growing, specialized company
Why This Role
This is a rare chance to join an established, profitable, owner-operated company and build its safety program from a position of real influence. You won't be one voice buried in a corporate EHS department — you'll be the safety leader, with direct access to ownership and the authority to make the calls that keep people safe. For a safety professional who wants ownership and impact, this seat matters.
