Job Title: Construction Safety Specialist

Hire Type: Onsite, Long-term contract (2 years+)
Pay Rate: $30.00 - $35.00/hour (W2)

Job Summary:
The Construction Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the construction safety program for a large global pharmaceutical manufacturing company. This position will ensure safety policies and procedures are followed during facility construction, demolition, renovation, and light industrial projects.
Must Have Skills:
- Construction safety experience
- Knowledge of OSHA and construction safety regulations
- Contractor safety and safety training experience
- Construction site inspection and hazard identification experience
- Ability to work onsite daily in North Chicago, IL
Job Duties:
- Ensure facility construction projects and trades comply with required safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Manage and support the contractor safety program, including vendor pre-qualification, safety training, and compliance.
- Ensure contractors follow required electronic permit-to-work processes and conduct spot checks to verify permit compliance.
- Conduct regular site walk-downs and safety inspections to identify hazards, document non-conformances, and ensure corrective actions are addressed.
- Review construction-related safety documentation and paperwork for accuracy and compliance.
- Serve as the first point of contact for safety incidents, promptly escalating issues for appropriate investigation and follow-up.
- Support contractors and construction trades with safety requirements while escalating recurring or significant issues to management.
- Support both high-risk projects, such as building demolition, and lower-risk renovation and light industrial projects within existing pharmaceutical facilities.
- Provide regular project updates and work with project stakeholders to maintain safety and scheduling expectations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is highly preferred.
- Must have a background in construction or a similar industry working as a safety professional.
- Strong understanding of construction safety procedures and terminology.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with construction workers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
