Construction-Site Competent Person (Temporary)
Location: Louisville, KY
 
Duration: Estimated to last through end of 2026 year with potential for extension and/ or conversion to regular employment based on performance and company needs.
 
Position Summary:
East & Westbrook is seeking a Temporary Competent Person to support jobsite safety and field operations. A Competent Person, as defined by OSHA, is someone capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards and authorized to take prompt corrective action. This is a hands-on, field-based role for someone with a strong construction background (leadman, operator, foreman, etc.) who understands means and methods and can support a safe, productive work in real time.
 
Note: This role is temporary and not eligible for company benefits.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the designated Competent Person on site
  • Identify hazards and take immediate corrective action
  • Perform daily inspections focused on high-risk activities and work methods
  • Support field crews by reinforcing safe means and methods of construction
  • Work directly with foremen, leadmen, and operators to improve safety and production
  • Stop or correct unsafe work when necessary
  • Assist with toolbox talks and daily safety expectations
  • Monitor OSHA and customer safety compliance
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers regarding safety conditions, expectations, and concerns
  • Maintain strong, productive working relationships with customers and field teams
  • Document incidents, near misses, and corrective actions
Qualifications
  • Required: OSHA 10
  • Preferred: OSHA 30
  • Strong construction background required (leadman, operator, foreman, or similar)
  • Solid understanding of construction means, methods, and equipment
  • Ability to recognize hazards and act quickly
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Customer-facing experience; able to build and maintain positive relationships
  • Self-directed and comfortable in a fast-paced jobsite environment
Work Details
  • Full-time hours expected with overtime.
  • Temporary– not benefits eligible.
  • Duration through year-end; potential for extension based on performance and company needs
