Construction Specialist IV
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance (QA) professional to support quality oversight for large-scale utility construction projects, including renewable energy and gas projects.
This position will support the Project Management & Construction (PMC) Quality Assurance organization by providing QA oversight, conducting audits and assessments, monitoring contractor and supplier quality programs, and supporting quality metrics, reporting, and other QA deliverables.
Work Model: Hybrid with frequent travel to supplier and project sites
Travel: Approximately 50%
Transportation: Personal vehicle may be required for travel; mileage will be reimbursed
Key Responsibilities
- Provide QA oversight for renewable energy projects, including Solar, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Hydro, and Gas projects, as directed.
- Verify that equipment suppliers, contractors, vendors, and other project partners perform work in accordance with the Quality Assurance Program, contractual requirements, specifications, applicable codes, and industry standards.
- Perform inspections, surveillance, audits, document reviews, and ongoing quality monitoring at construction sites and supplier facilities.
- Conduct audits and assessments of supplier, contractor, and vendor quality programs involving manufacturing, shop fabrication, field fabrication, and construction activities.
- Perform audits of internal PMC processes as required.
- Review supplier, contractor, and vendor quality programs for adequacy, completeness, and applicability to the work being performed.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of Quality Assurance procedures, processes, and program documentation.
- Prepare detailed reports documenting inspections, audits, findings, observations, and quality-related activities.
- Evaluate NDE procedures and methodologies, review and verify interpretation of NDE results, and provide oversight of contractor and supplier QA/QC activities.
- Evaluate applicable codes, standards, and technical requirements as needed.
- Perform weekly site walks with contractors and periodically monitor in-process work for compliance.
- Complete weekly reports detailing QA/QC activities and updates in accordance with the approved quality plan.
- Manage the project's nonconformance process.
- Document quality observations as required by the approved site-specific quality plan.
- Review and provide comments on Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), contractor quality documentation, and other project documents.
- Perform weekly, biweekly, and as-needed site visits to provide QA support.
- Support construction, maintenance, and restoration teams in meeting project and company objectives.
- Promote adherence to safe work practices, standards, procedures, and approved work methods.
- Support project execution and customer commitments while maintaining quality and safety expectations.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience providing QA oversight on large, utility-scale new construction projects.
- Experience with new-generation renewable energy projects (Solar, BESS, Hydro) and/or Gas projects.
- Strong quality management and QA/QC experience.
- Experience performing quality audits, inspections, surveillance, and assessments.
- Knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
- Experience reviewing contractor and supplier quality programs and documentation.
- Knowledge of NDE procedures, methodologies, and results interpretation.
- Experience managing or supporting nonconformance processes.
- Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills, including methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma and causal/root-cause analysis.
- Ability to work effectively with contractors, suppliers, project teams, and leadership.
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% to supplier and project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Procore.
- Experience with SharePoint.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience reviewing ITPs and contractor quality documentation.
- Previous experience supporting quality programs across construction, fabrication, manufacturing, and field operations.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a seasoned QA/QC professional with extensive utility or energy construction experience who is comfortable being hands-on in the field. They should have experience auditing contractors and suppliers, conducting site inspections and surveillance, reviewing quality documentation, managing nonconformances, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and project quality plans.
Experience supporting utility-scale Solar, BESS, Hydro, and/or Gas construction projects will be particularly valuable. Because this position involves significant field and supplier interaction, the successful candidate should also be comfortable with approximately 50% travel and working directly with contractors, vendors, suppliers, and project teams.
