Title: Construction Specialist (Temp-to-Hire)
Duration: 5 Months (with possibility of extension or temp to hire)
Location: Northbrook, IL
Only W2 candidates are eligible for this position. Third-party or C2C candidates will not be considered.
Interview: There will be 2 ONSITE interviews - 1st round with the manager and 2nd with Senior Engineering Technician
Shift: 6:30 AM 3:00 PM
Job Description:

- In this role, you'll construct mock environments to simulate real-world conditions, ensuring products meet the highest safety standards before they reach customers. - Hands-on role in a construction/lab environment
- Involves working with materials and structures such as:
- Wall construction, drywall, framing
- Welding, carpentry, and crane-related exposure
- Forklift operation
- Work includes demolition using jackhammers and pneumatic tools
- Mix of light blue-collar work data capture/reporting
- Less than 25% computer-based work
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the setup and performance of equipment and test setups for clients.
- Builds and/or adapts setup and test equipment for performance of tests.
- Examines test samples and reads blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, measuring instruments, and operational instructions.
- Follows basically defined test plans and datasheets.
- Evaluates test performance and sample operation to properly evaluate test results.
- Records and explains test results and completes test report.
- Builds and/or adapts setup and test equipment to new situations, based on data sheets and instructions from engineering department personnel.
- May direct staff in test setups.
- Examines less complex customer samples and learns to operate appropriate tests for each case with necessary supervision/support.
- Communicates with customers during setup and operation to ensure proper evaluation.
- Operates designated machines and special laboratory equipment.
- Performs routine maintenance of designated test equipment and laboratory area.
- May perform basic calibration of test equipment.
- Reads and understands specific test standards and testing technology for scope of responsibility with necessary supervision/support.
- Initiates recommendations for new equipment designs and recommends solutions to observed test problems.
- Receives instructions from and reports data to engineers and engineering management.
- May communicate with clients during test setups to discuss test methods and/or test results.
- Operates with minimal supervision within defined limits of responsibility.
- Records observed or calculated data on appropriate Client forms and prepares data sheets and test reports.
- May plan tests, evaluate test results and report opinions and interpretations, as directed.
- Integrates basic continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
- Communicates with management and technical staff to provide suggestions for new equipment, processes, and forms to improve accuracy and efficiencies.
- Perform physical testing and construction-related lab work
- Use tools for demolition and construction tasks
- Capture and document data from tests and experiments
- Collaborate with internal teams to discuss findings
- Operate forklifts and other industrial equipment
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in construction, with hands-on skills in carpentry, concrete work, and general building techniques.
- Ability to perform tasks such as framing steel stud walls, hanging drywall, and using tools like impact drills and rotary drills.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic lab environment where daily tasks vary and may include building mock environments for testing (e.g., constructing wall assemblies).
- Ability to work effectively with long-tenured team members, showing humility, respect, and a willingness to learn from others.
- Strong foundational knowledge of construction principles and safety practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience: 2 3 years (must be able to hit the ground running)
- Background can be from any industry, but must have:
- Construction experience (walls, framing, drywall, etc.)
- Forklift operation experience (certification required)
- Comfortable working in a highly industrial environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Certification or demonstrated experience operating powered industrial equipment such as forklifts or overhead cranes.
- Familiarity with lab or testing environments is a plus.
