Company Overview

DAI General Contracting is an established commercial general contracting firm and a recognized leader in the self-storage industry throughout California. Since 2003, we have completed well over ten million square feet of self-storage facilities while maintaining deep expertise in office buildings, retail, concrete tilt, and tenant improvements.

We are known for an atmosphere of trust and respect with our clients, trade partners, and staff, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the smart use of our experience to deliver quality projects at competitive pricing.

The Opportunity

This is a high-impact role for a seasoned Commercial Construction Project Superintendent who wants to own the onsite delivery of complex, high-tech self-storage facilities and other commercial projects in the San Diego area. You will be the quarterback on site, driving schedule, safety, quality, and coordination from groundbreaking through closeout.

If you enjoy running the field, solving problems in real time, and leading subcontractors to deliver work you are proud to put your name on, this role offers the chance to take on larger, more complex projects with a stable, respected contractor.

What You'll Do

  • Lead day-to-day onsite construction activities for ground-up and complex commercial/self-storage projects from mobilization through final inspection and turnover.
  • Own the project schedule and field execution, using Microsoft Project and Procore to plan work, sequence trades, track progress, and keep the project on or ahead of schedule and within budget.
  • Direct and coordinate subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring work is performed safely, to spec, and in alignment with approved drawings, details, and quality standards.
  • Partner closely with project managers, coordinators, and accountants to manage RFIs, changes, deliveries, inspections, and documentation in Procore and other digital platforms.
  • Enforce site safety and housekeeping standards, conduct regular quality inspections, and train and supervise assistant superintendents and skilled laborers to build a high-performing field team.

What Success Looks Like

  • Within your first 12 months, you successfully lead at least one major commercial or self-storage project from early phases through substantial completion, hitting key schedule milestones and budget targets.
  • You establish a well-coordinated, safety-first jobsite where subcontractors know expectations, inspections pass the first time, and rework and safety incidents are minimized.
  • Project stakeholders, owners, architects, internal project teams, and trade partners view you as a clear, proactive communicator who resolves field issues quickly and constructively.
  • You develop and mentor site assistants so they take on greater responsibility, allowing the project to run efficiently and positioning you for future larger or multiple-project assignments.

What We're Looking For

  • At least 5 years of experience as a superintendent or lead in large-scale commercial or industrial projects; self-storage or similar complex structures preferred.
  • Proficiency with construction scheduling and documentation tools, ideally including Microsoft Project and Procore, and the ability to read and execute from detailed plans and specifications.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a track record of effectively coordinating multiple trades in a fast-paced, field-based environment.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and client satisfaction, with the organizational skills and attention to detail needed to keep multiple moving parts aligned on an active jobsite.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary starting at approximately $120,000 to $160,000 annually BOE, with potential variation based on experience and qualifications.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, supplemental, and life insurance; 401(k) with company match; paid sick time; paid holidays; and paid time off.
  • Full-time, exempt position.
  • Primarily field-based role in the greater San Diego area, with regular travel to project sites and varying commute distances based on project location.
