Job Description

This role oversees all field operations for a historic landmark preservation project in East Hampton, NY. The Construction Superintendent manages day-to-day site activities, coordinates subcontractors and stakeholders, maintains project schedules, enforces safety standards, and ensures high-quality workmanship that aligns with historic preservation requirements. This is a 5‑month, primarily day-shift project where you will play a key leadership role in restoring and protecting a significant historic structure while collaborating closely with experienced construction professionals and preservation specialists.

Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise all day-to-day construction activities on site, ensuring work progresses safely and efficiently.
• Manage project schedules, monitor milestones, and ensure key deliverables are completed on time.
• Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and project stakeholders to maintain smooth field operations.
• Monitor manpower needs, workforce productivity, and adjust resources as necessary to meet project goals.
• Conduct daily site walks to identify issues early and proactively resolve field challenges.
• Ensure all work complies with historic preservation requirements, project specifications, and applicable standards.
• Coordinate restoration activities involving historic architectural elements, finishes, and materials.
• Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, consultants, and preservation specialists to maintain design and preservation integrity.

Essential Skills

• Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Superintendent, General Superintendent, or Lead Superintendent overseeing commercial construction projects.
• Minimum 1-2 years of experience on historic landmark preservation, restoration, or rehabilitation projects.
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and site logistics.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts accurately.
• Proven experience managing subcontractors and multiple trades simultaneously on active construction sites.
• Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and the ability to enforce safety programs in the field.
• Excellent leadership skills with the ability to direct field teams and foster collaboration.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with project stakeholders and documenting site activities.
• Ability to walk active construction sites for extended periods.
• Ability to climb ladders, navigate uneven terrain, and access all areas of the project safely.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when necessary.
• Ability to plan at least two weeks ahead and align resources, schedule, and logistics accordingly.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working on landmark, adaptive reuse, restoration, or preservation projects beyond the minimum requirements.
• OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or similar construction management software platforms.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends when required to support inspections, shutdowns, or critical activities.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $60.00/hr.
