Construction Superintendent

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time, On-Site

LOCATION: Sandia National Laboratories, Livermore, CA

INDUSTRY: Construction | Mission-Critical Facilities | Federal / Government Infrastructure | Underground Utilities

REPORTS TO: VP of Construction

This position requires U.S. citizenship and local residency in the Livermore, CA area. Due to Sandia National Laboratories' security requirements, all candidates must be able to pass a federal background investigation and obtain site access credentials.

Take command of daily field operations on a landmark federal construction program, driving safety, schedule, and quality across ground-up building and underground utility work.

Are you a hands-on field leader who thrives on driving daily execution, safety, and schedule across a large, multi-trade job site? Do you want full field authority on a landmark federal construction program?

PTS Data Center Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Construction Superintendent to lead daily field operations for the SWIC/WUC construction program at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA. The program is executed as a single, integrated project in the field, while being tracked as two separate projects - SWIC and WUC. Scope includes ground-up new building construction and an extensive underground utility infrastructure program.

As the General Contractor's full-time, on-site field authority, you will directly plan, sequence, and direct daily operations, lead trade coordination, and serve as the GC's single point of accountability for safety, quality, and schedule in the field. This assignment will not change without written Owner approval for the duration of the project.

At PTS Data Center Solutions, you will work alongside industry leaders on advanced mission-critical and federal infrastructure projects. This is an opportunity to take full field ownership of a high-profile, federally secured construction program while contributing to a growing organization built on innovation, accountability, and teamwork.

Essential Duties May Include

  • Serve as the GC's full-time on-site authority over labor installation and field execution for both the SWIC and WUC scopes; act as single point of contact between the Owner's Representative and GC for all on-site activities.
  • Plan, sequence, and direct all daily field operations, ensuring no subcontractor is on site without GC presence.
  • Lead daily Plan-of-the-Day (POD) meetings with each subcontractor's superintendent to coordinate trades, sequence work, and monitor progress across ground-up building and underground utility work.
  • Develop and update the three-week look-ahead schedule weekly; drive subcontractor compliance with the master CPM schedule.
  • Own site safety: enforce OSHA 30/10 compliance, the GC Site-Specific Safety Plan, and Sandia National Laboratories' site security and safety requirements; partner with the Safety Manager on daily inspections, JHAs, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate 3rd-party inspection and testing agencies and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) code inspectors with subcontractors as work progresses.
  • Maintain daily construction logs with progress photos, manpower by classification, weather, equipment on site, deliveries, visitors, safety incidents, and work performed.
  • Verify daily sign-in/sign-out for all personnel on site; confirm site access credentialing and facility ID compliance for all GC and subcontractor workers accessing the Sandia National Laboratories campus.
  • Coordinate room access, equipment shutdowns, utility tie-ins, and facility interruptions with Sandia and the Owner's Representative in accordance with federal laboratory security protocols; provide required advance notice.
  • Manage site logistics: laydown areas, trailer placement (with Owner approval), crane picks, deliveries, temporary utilities, and pedestrian/vehicle traffic control, across both building and underground utility work areas.
  • Verify installed work conforms to contract documents, approved submittals, and shop drawings; reject non-conforming work and drive timely correction.
  • Lead punch list development and closeout: O&M manuals, record drawings, warranties, commissioning support, start-up/testing, training coordination.
  • Support the Project Manager in change order pricing by validating field conditions, quantities, and durations.
  • Ensure GC and subcontractor crews wear company-labeled shirts and present a clean, professional appearance.
  • Be reachable 24/7 via GC-provided mobile device for emergencies during the construction period.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Needed

  • Strong field leadership skills with the ability to direct and hold accountable a large, multi-trade workforce.
  • Extensive scheduling and sequencing experience, including three-week look-ahead planning and master CPM schedule compliance.

What Success Looks Like

  • Safety & Compliance: Zero lost-time incidents and full compliance with OSHA and Sandia's site security requirements.
