    ABOUT THE WORK

    S.E.T., Inc is a heavy highway and civil contractor performing roadway reconstruction, bridge work, mass excavation, underground utilities, and site development throughout Ohio and Western Pennsylvania - ODOT, PennDOT, county, municipal, and private work, including prevailing wage / Davis-Bacon projects. We're hiring a Superintendent to own field execution on one or more active projects, from mobilization through closeout.

    WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

    • Owning the overall field schedule and sequencing of work across all crews and subcontractors on the project
    • Supervising and supporting multiple Foremen and crews across trades - laborers, operators, and subcontracted work - including both union and non-union personnel
    • Partnering with the Project Manager on budget, cost control, change orders, procurement, and subcontractor management
    • Leading the site safety program - inspections, toolbox talks, incident investigation, and enforcement of the company safety program across the entire site
    • Ensuring work is built to contract specifications and passes QA/QC and DOT inspection requirements
    • Serving as the primary field point of contact for the owner's representative, engineers, and DOT/agency inspectors
    • Overseeing material and equipment logistics across the project, including coordination with S.E.T.'s Field Support & Logistics team
    • Maintaining daily reports, production tracking, and progress schedule updates using scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project)
    • Managing manpower planning and staffing levels to meet the schedule, including coordination with union hiring halls where applicable
    • Mentoring and developing Foremen; enforcing consistent standards across the project
    • Participating in pre-construction planning, bid reviews, and schedule development before mobilization

    SKILLS & EXPERIENCE WE'RE LOOKING FOR

    • 7-10+ years of heavy highway or civil construction experience, including 3+ years in a Superintendent or senior Foreman role
    • Demonstrated experience managing multiple crews and trades on active roadway or civil projects, including both union and non-union labor
    • Strong knowledge of DOT specifications, prevailing wage / Davis-Bacon requirements, and public agency inspection processes
    • Working knowledge of scheduling software and the ability to build and hold a schedule accountable
    • Budget and cost control experience, including reading and managing to a job cost report
    • Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills - able to run a productive job while managing owner, engineer, and subcontractor relationships
    • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; willingness to travel between multiple active jobsites
    • Willingness to work out of town, including occasional out-of-state project assignments

    CERTIFICATIONS (CURRENT OR WILLING TO OBTAIN)

    • OSHA 30-Hour Construction (OSHA 500 Train-the-Trainer a plus)
    • Competent Person - Trench & Excavation Safety
    • Competent Person - Fall Protection
    • First Aid / CPR
    • DOT / prevailing wage compliance training - a plus

    UNION STATUS

    This is a non-union, salaried management position. The Superintendent oversees and coordinates work performed by both union (LIUNA and IUOE) and non-union crews on S.E.T.'s projects and is expected to understand and respect the applicable collective bargaining agreements and jurisdictional practices, but is not personally required to hold union membership.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Regularly walk active jobsites, including uneven ground, excavations, and areas near live traffic and heavy equipment
    • Frequent travel by vehicle between multiple active jobsites in a single day
    • Work outdoors in all weather as needed to monitor field operations
    • Extended hours, weekend availability, and occasional out-of-town or overnight travel may be required depending on the project
    • Pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing per company policy
