Job Title: Construction SuperintendentJob Description

The Construction Superintendent leads all on-site operations for multiple commercial, light industrial, and retail projects, serving as the primary point of contact for owners, designers, subcontractors, and inspectors. This role is accountable for driving project success by ensuring that quality standards are met, schedules are maintained, and budget goals are achieved while fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily job site activities and ensure all construction operations run safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate trades and subcontractors, including scheduling, sequencing of work, and resolving field issues to maintain project momentum.
  • Lead on-site team setup and provide clear direction to field personnel to achieve project objectives.
  • Attend subcontractor and owner meetings to communicate progress, address concerns, and align expectations.
  • Complete detailed daily reports documenting site activities, manpower, inspections, and any issues impacting schedule or quality.
  • Manage field communication among owners, designers, subcontractors, inspectors, and internal teams to ensure timely information flow.
  • Support pre-construction efforts, including design coordination, participation in estimating activities, and development of project schedules.
  • Manage construction processes such as submittals, requests for information (RFIs), safety programs, and project documentation.
  • Lead regular progress meetings to review schedules, milestones, and performance, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Enforce subcontractor performance standards, ensuring adherence to safety requirements, quality expectations, and contractual obligations.
  • Drive project timelines by monitoring critical path activities, identifying potential delays, and proactively implementing solutions.
  • Oversee punch list creation, tracking, and completion to ensure all outstanding items are resolved to the satisfaction of stakeholders.
  • Manage project closeout activities, including documentation, inspections, and turnover, to achieve timely and successful completion.
  • Provide excellent internal and external customer service by building and maintaining effective relationships with owners, design teams, subcontractors, and colleagues.
  • Apply knowledge of sitework, commercial office, light industrial, and retail construction techniques and site development throughout all phases of the project.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor"s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience serving as a superintendent.
  • 10-15 years of experience overseeing commercial construction projects, including ground-up and vertical construction.
  • Demonstrated experience working with general contractors or developers in a commercial construction environment (preferred but strongly valued).
  • Strong knowledge of general construction techniques for sitework, commercial office, light industrial, and retail projects.
  • Knowledge of site development processes and requirements.
  • Proven record of delivering excellent internal and external customer service and building effective working relationships.
  • Hands-on experience in construction management and field supervision, particularly in a construction superintendent role.
  • Ability to manage subcontractors, coordinate multiple trades, and oversee complex job sites.
  • Commitment to safety, including familiarity with OSHA standards and safety best practices; OSHA 30 certification is highly valued.
  • Strong focus on quality control and adherence to project specifications and standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Extensive experience and knowledge in real estate development and commercial construction.
  • Experience using construction and project management software such as Procore, Microsoft Project, and Yardi.
  • Procore certification or equivalent proficiency with the platform.
  • Understanding of design software commonly used by consultants, including AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Ability to interpret design documents and collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, and other design professionals.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills suitable for managing multiple projects and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel within the Midwest and occasionally to other regions, such as Boston, as project needs require.

Work Environment

This role is primarily based on-site and in the field, overseeing active construction projects. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with the potential for weekend work depending on project schedules and deadlines. The position involves some travel, including projects across the Midwest and occasional assignments in locations such as Boston, with travel expenses covered. The environment is fast-paced and project-focused, with close collaboration alongside executive staff and project teams. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $52.80 - $62.50/hr.
