Job Title: Construction Superintendent

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead field operations and deliver high-quality commercial construction projects throughout the region. You will oversee day-to-day job site activities, coordinate subcontractors, and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget. This role requires strong leadership, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to proactively resolve field issues while maintaining project schedules and quality standards. You will serve as the primary on-site point of contact, working closely with project managers, clients, and design teams to drive project success. This position offers an excellent stepping stone for professionals who want midsize project experience and who are looking to build the skills needed to advance into roles with larger general contractors and larger projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage daily field operations for commercial construction projects, ensuring work progresses safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project plans and specifications.
  • Serve as the primary on-site point of contact, coordinating closely with project managers, clients, and design teams to support clear communication and project alignment.
  • Oversee and coordinate subcontractors on site, including scheduling, sequencing work, and resolving conflicts to maintain workflow and productivity.
  • Monitor job site safety practices, enforce compliance with safety standards and regulations, and promote a strong safety culture on every project.
  • Ensure quality control across all phases of construction, verifying that work meets established standards, drawings, and specifications.
  • Proactively identify and resolve field issues, including constructability challenges and schedule impacts, to keep projects on track.
  • Maintain project schedules by tracking progress, adjusting field activities as needed, and communicating changes to stakeholders.
  • Support budget adherence by monitoring field labor, materials, and subcontractor performance, and by minimizing rework through effective planning and oversight.
  • Coordinate and oversee renovation and fit-out activities, particularly in retail and healthcare environments, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations when applicable.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through consistent communication, professional conduct, and responsive problem-solving on site.
  • Document field activities as required, including daily reports, progress updates, and issue logs, to support project tracking and closeout.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in construction, with either commercial or residential backgrounds considered acceptable.
  • Demonstrated experience in renovations and interior fit-out projects, even if not focused on ground-up construction.
  • Experience in client-facing roles, with strong relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Working with general contractors and subcontractors in a commercial construction environment.
  • Subcontractor management skills, including scheduling, coordination, and performance oversight.
  • Strong safety awareness and the ability to enforce safety practices on active job sites.
  • Quality control experience, ensuring work meets project specifications and standards.
  • OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training.
  • Ability to manage multiple field activities simultaneously while maintaining organization and attention to detail.
  • Clear, professional communication skills for interacting with clients, project managers, and design teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience delivering retail and healthcare renovation or fit-out projects.
  • Familiarity with commercial construction processes on midsize projects, typically ranging from smaller-scale jobs up to approximately one million dollars in value.
  • Interest in professional growth, particularly for individuals seeking to progress into roles with larger general contractors and larger-scale projects.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address field issues quickly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in the field while collaborating closely with office-based project teams.

Work Environment

This is a field-based role with primary responsibilities performed on active construction sites rather than in an office setting. You will manage projects directly from the job site, with a focus on retail and healthcare buildings. Most work involves renovations and interior fit-outs rather than large ground-up new builds. Typical project sizes range from smaller projects in the thousands up to approximately one million dollars, with a focus on midsize commercial work rather than very large-scale developments. The environment involves coordinating multiple subcontractors, monitoring safety and quality in real time, and working in active or partially occupied facilities, particularly in retail and healthcare settings. You can expect a hands-on, fast-paced atmosphere where you are highly visible on site and actively engaged in day-to-day construction activities.
