Purpose of the position

Will perform assigned construction supervisor duties onsite at the NASA Johnson Space Center. Supervises construction projects; ensures architectural, mechanical, and electrical designs and drawings for new construction and remodeling projects meet professional and governmental requirements.

  • Supervises the interaction between engineers and developers during construction, to ensure construction adheres to contract specifications and time guidelines.

 

Principal Responsibilities of the Position

  • Reviews construction related reports based on job site inspections. Prepares project reports for relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitors cost overruns and underruns. Assists in developing, updating and monitoring planning and scheduling flow charts.
  • Oversees the costs of equipment alternatives and selecting additional equipment based on design specifications, availability and costs.
  • Acts as a coordinator of the engineering, fabrication and testing phases of construction.
  • Supervises the layout, design, and installation procedures of facility architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical systems to ensure construction meets client needs and adheres to local, state, and federal codes.
  • Reviews preliminary drawings and cost estimates to ensure compliance with overall budget.
  • Provides project reports to management on status of job costing, operations, financials, key projects, and other reports as needed.
  • Recommends and/or initiates the selection and hiring of employees. Trains and evaluates employees to enhance their performance, development, and work product. Addresses performance issues and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Makes recommendations for salary increases, transfers and terminations to manager.

 

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Construction Management degree preferred or 10+ years experience
  • Certified Construction manager
  • Construction cost estimating and associated computer software application skills.
  • Skills in the design, or inspection of construction, of buildings and utilities
  • Surveying techniques/equipment computations skills.

 

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
  • Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
  • Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
  • Must have, and maintain, a valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment background check and drug screen test.
  • Clean, neat, and professional personal appearance.
  • Will insure quality and completeness of work in a safe and timely manner as well as insuring areas worked are clean, neat and ready for customers needs when complete.

 

Special Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with technicians, engineers, public officials, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to apply Federal Acquisition Regulations pertaining to selection of architectural/engineering and services fields
  • Willingness to travel.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Dexterity to operate office and field equipment as required by the position.

 

Preferences

  • Prior knowledge of NASA site, experienced with working on government installations preferred.
