CONSTRUCTION TECH. TEACHER

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree, Interim Occupational Certificate or Occupational Education Certificate in Construction Trades (CIP Code 46.0000); or if no Occupational Certificate, the ability to qualify for Annual Occupational Authorization in Construction Trades which requires a minimum of two years or 4,000 hours (within the last 5 years) of recent and relevant paid work experience in the construction industry
  • Must possess a valid and current Michigan Builder's License
  • Previous secondary/adult level teaching experience preferred
  • Specific qualifications as determined by area of instruction

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communication and business networking skills required
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills, technology skills, be detailed and team oriented
  • Instruct students and evaluate their performances using a variety of educationally appropriate methodologies
  • Develop competency based Career Technical instructional methods and materials, including curriculum
  • Facilitates/coordinates a rigorous Construction Trades curriculum with career-related instruction and assessments
  • Models enthusiasm for Construction Trades and demonstrates current innovations in the industry, including competition within the global economy
  • Prepares orders for purchase of supplies, tools, equipment, and instructional materials necessary to support the learning activities of the Building Construction Trades program
  • Integrate Career & Technical Student Organization (C.T.S.O.) leadership activities into the Construction Trades program
  • Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school
  • Assigns lessons and corrects student work
  • Administers assessments to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress
  • Maintains all student records
  • Maintains a positive system of classroom management
  • Meets with parents to discuss student progress and problems
  • Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops
  • Performs related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting course of study, and counseling student in adjustment and academic problems
  • Manage program accounts and projects, working within budget and scheduling requirements
  • Confer with advisory members to discuss curriculum requirements, industry standards, and to coordinate activities
  • Facilitate work-based learning experiences for students (field trips, job shadows, internships, job placement)
  • Promote and market the Clarkston Construction Trades Program
  • Teach job entry skills and maintain an instructional program that reflects the actual work environment
  • Maintain daily student progress and attendance records
  • Organize and maintain lab and equipment
  • Responsible for incorporating fundamentals of Algebra 2, resulting in embedded credit of Algebra 2
  • Coordinate with other instructional team members to ensure best/compatible use of and common program equipment and equipment security
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of national and local building codes and standards
  • Knowledge of and willingness to apply and develop competency based career-technical instructional methods
  • Ability to provide multi-level instruction
  • Knowledge of computers and industry specific software
  • Coordinate use of common program equipment
  • Be available, on occasion, for in-building and school activities and committees in various public relations, community and marketing activities beyond normal workday
