Primary Purpose:
Plan and implement an instructional program that prepares students for educational pathways and occupations in the construction industry. Provide students with real-world experiences through classroom instruction, hands-on applications, and work-based learning opportunities.
Qualifications/Skills:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelors degree as permitted in specific career fields.
- Valid Trade and Industry Texas Teacher Certificate or Teaching Certificate from out of state, appropriate for the position and classes taught.
- Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in safety, handling, and proper use of commercial power tools and non-commercial power tools (drill, jigsaw, router, circular saw, etc.).
- Ability to effectively communicate and work with students, peers, parents, administrators, business partners, community, and others.
- Ability to create and manage interactive, innovative hands-on projects for student engagement and effectively teach and work with high school students.
- Have a working knowledge of the objectives and TEKS of courses in the program.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional Strategies:
- Teach and enhance classes that meet the need for priority occupations in construction technology and home repair while integrating the academic core into a meaningful, relevant curriculum.
- Adhere to the districts philosophy of instruction.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
Student Growth and Development:
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Sponsor/co-sponsor an approved career and technical student organization and promote student participation.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization:
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook in the classroom and at work sites.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
CTE Program Support:
- Contribute to the continued development of an up-to-date, relevant Construction Technology program and provide vision for future needs.
- Engage in regular and systematic planning for classes with fellow teachers as available; integrate academic core curriculum into meaningful, relevant curriculum.
- Collaborate with principals, teachers, higher education, and industry advisors.
- Generate, submit, and maintain accurate training plans and visit all students at their work-based training site at minimum six times per year to ensure all sites contribute to the students employability skills and contain the appropriate work duties.
- Maintain industry partnerships and post-secondary relations that promote course articulation, dual credit, work-based learning opportunities, and advising the Construction Tech program and curriculum relevancy.
Communication:
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Collaborate with principals, teachers, higher education, and industry advisors.
Professional Growth and Development:
- Participate in state, district, and campus staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
