Job Summary

Full-time Instructors are professional, credentialed educators whose primary responsibility is to provide high-quality learning experiences in curriculum or continuing education courses within their areas of expertise for all Rockingham Community College (RCC) students. They are classified as exempt staff professionals, earn annual leave, and are expected to fulfill instructional responsibilities within a 38-hour workweek. Instructors deliver instruction on the main campus, online, and at approved off-site locations.

Their responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning, organizing, promoting, and delivering courses across multiple modalities, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats, and serving diverse student populations. They are expected to complete all instructional and academic responsibilities in a timely manner and in alignment with the mission, policies, and procedures of RCC, the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS), and relevant accrediting agencies.

In addition to instructional duties, they provide academic advising, student support and follow-up services, assist with recruitment and retention efforts, and perform other duties as assigned; and they must be capable of delivering effective instruction to high school, first generation, low-income and adult learners in a variety of educational settings.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Journey-level (at least 4 years) construction industry experience in any skilled craft trade and a working understanding of the residential building process, from site excavation through certificate of occupancy.
  • Ability to perform and teach basic carpentry, including floor, wall, and ceiling/roof framing, stair construction, exterior finish work, and roofing fundamentals, with an emphasis on safety and proper use of personal protection equipment (PPE).
  • Applicant must be willing to earn National Center for Construction Education Research (NCCER) certifications within the first three months.

  • Collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators at all levels of the College.
  • Maintain flexibility to work a varied schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends, as required.

North Carolina Retirement System - State Retirement Plan

Full-time employees participate in the North Carolina Teachers and State Employees Retirement System. State retirement is deducted at the rate of six percent; the state contribution varies dependent on market conditions. Contributions are tax sheltered for federal and state income tax purposes. Short-term and Long-term Disability benefits are available to eligible employees.

NC Total Retirement Plans (Supplemental Retirement Plans)

The NC 401(k) Plan and the NC 457 Plan are defined contribution retirement plans offered as optional employment benefits to eligible employees.
