Position Description:

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is seeking a full-time Consult Liaison Psychiatrist to join their practice located in Lancaster, PA. The practice consists of board-certified psychiatrists, nurse practitioners and other healthcare professionals all working together to help provide the most appropriate plan of care for medically ill patients as well as identify patients who will need ongoing treatment and transition of care.

Consult Liaison Psychiatrists work a 7-on/7-off model, with 10 hour day shifts

Key Responsibilities:

Inpatient Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry

  • Provide psychiatric consultations for adult inpatients across medical, surgical, ICU, and specialty services
  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and develop treatment plans, including medication recommendations and safety planning
  • Diagnose and manage a broad range of conditions including mood disorders, psychosis, anxiety, delirium, and behavioral complications of medical illness
  • Document evaluations and recommendations in the EMR in accordance with hospital standards

Delirium Management & Hospital-Based Behavioral Care

  • Lead assessment and management of delirium in medically complex patients
  • Partner with hospital medicine and nursing to implement best practices and system-level protocols
  • Guide both non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic interventions to improve outcomes and reduce LOS

Emergency Department Support

  • Provide rapid psychiatric evaluations for ED patients
  • Conduct safety assessments and determine appropriate disposition (admission vs. discharge)
  • Collaborate closely with ED teams and behavioral response resources

Substance Use & Complex Case Management

  • Support management of patients with co-occurring substance use disorders
  • Coordinate with Addiction Medicine, social work, and case management to ensure safe transitions of care

Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Education

  • Serve as a key psychiatric consultant to hospital teams
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, case discussions, and committee work
  • Provide education to medical staff, residents, and nursing on behavioral health topics

Quality, Compliance & Program Development

  • Maintain high-quality documentation and adherence to regulatory standards
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to behavioral health, safety, and throughput
  • Contribute to ongoing development of hospital-based behavioral health services

Call Coverage

  • Participate in compensated call supporting hospital consult services, PATH unit, and ED coverage

Position Requirements:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Medicine (Allopathic/Osteopathic)
  • Completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency
  • Possess or able to obtain an unrestricted PA Medical License
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible
