Divisional Overview

Davey Resource Group (DRG), the consulting division of the Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited, provides a comprehensive range of natural resource, urban forestry, and tree preservation consulting and utility consulting services to the commercial, residential, municipal, and governmental markets. In Canada, our local offices expertise and services encompass arboriculture and forestry, right-of-way vegetation management, ecology and wildlife assessment, and asset management.

Position Overview

As a Consulting Arborist you will be called upon to provide your knowledge and experience to provide in-depth consultation services across several different client groups from individual homeowners to Architects, Builders/Construction companies, larger utility clients, and municipalities. You will be required to apply your skills to a wide range of disciplines including tree assessments, inventory collection and management, preservation planning for construction, and on-site tree protection and injury mitigation. The ability to communicate clearly through face-to-face interactions, email correspondence, report writing, and data collection will be vital towards the success of the applicant and Davey Resource Group.

Job Duties

  • Consult with clients within different aspects of projects that may impact trees.
  • Travel to various locations within a specified region providing consulting services.
  • Understand and apply tree preservation regulations to reporting and planning for construction.
  • Write Arborist Reports and Tree Preservation Plans for construction projects.
  • Draft technical reports detailing tree assessments and providing recommendations.
  • Assist in research and development of Urban Forest Strategy and Management Plans.
  • Provide detailed Tree Risk Assessments for clients.
  • Perform data collection for tree inventory projects throughout southern Ontario. (out-of-province travel opportunities available)
  • Complete non-invasive root exploration when requested by a client or municipality.
  • Monitor excavation within root zones and provide root pruning to mitigate tree impacts.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of Industry experience in arboriculture or related fields.
  • Strong tree species Identification skills, ability to identify and assess tree defects/diseases.
  • ISA Certified Arborist or equivalent accreditation (RPF, ASCA) required.
  • TRAQ Certification and/or any additional ISA accreditation is a plus.
  • Experience using GIS programs (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.) is recommended but not required.
  • The ability to read and interpret scaled plan drawings and any experience in the construction or utility industries are an asset.
  • Experience in environmental surveys, management, invasive species monitoring, and wildlife surveys are considered an asset.
  • Ability to work outside, occasionally using tools and lifting/carrying objects up to 50lbs.
  • Valid provincial driver's license (G2 minimum).
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, willingness to learn and progress.
  • Experience with MS Office is necessary. Experience with AutoCAD is an asset.

Additional Information

  • Full-time hourly position. Expected annual pay of $72,000 - $86,000. Wage based on experience and qualifications.
  • Occasional overtime required, depending on project.
  • Flexible hybrid at-home and field work schedule.
