Consumer Litigation Staff Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Consumer Litigation Staff Attorney to join the California offices of a nationally recognized Am Law firm. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced litigator with at least 5 years of experience who enjoys managing cases independently while working closely with sophisticated financial institution clients and a highly regarded consumer litigation team.

The ideal candidate will have strong litigation and case management skills, excellent writing abilities, and experience handling consumer financial services disputes, arbitrations, and settlement negotiations.

Litigation & Arbitration Management

• Manage individual consumer litigation and arbitration matters from inception through resolution
• Review pleadings, correspondence, and case filings
• Maintain case calendars and monitor litigation deadlines
• Identify and report significant developments and urgent issues to supervising attorneys
• Conduct document review and oversee case administration
• Coordinate with and supervise local counsel as needed

Discovery & Motion Practice

• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and responses
• Conduct legal research and prepare substantive legal analyses
• Manage written discovery and document production
• Prepare matters for hearings, arbitrations, and court appearances
• Participate in arbitration proceedings, including merits hearings

Settlement & Resolution

• Communicate regularly with opposing counsel regarding settlement opportunities
• Evaluate cases and prepare settlement recommendations for clients
• Draft settlement agreements and related documentation
• Assist clients in efficiently resolving disputes while minimizing litigation risk

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Active California Bar membership in good standing
• Minimum of 5 years of litigation experience
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities
• Ability to independently manage multiple matters and deadlines
• Strong communication and negotiation skills
• Confidence interacting directly with opposing counsel, clients, and courts

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience handling arbitrations through JAMS or AAA
• Experience defending financial institutions or commercial clients
• Experience litigating claims involving:
• • Consumer protection laws
  • Banking regulations
  • Privacy laws
  • Financial services disputes
• Bankruptcy litigation experience, including adversary proceedings

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary Range: $174,000 – $218,000
