Consumer Loan Originator


Position Summary
The Consumer Loan Originator is responsible for assisting members with consumer lending needs by providing knowledgeable guidance, evaluating loan requests, and delivering personalized financial solutions. This role focuses on building strong member relationships, ensuring a positive lending experience, and supporting the credit union’s commitment to exceptional member service.


The ideal candidate is proactive, goal-oriented, and committed to providing exceptional service while meeting or exceeding individual production targets.


This position requires participation in a Saturday rotation and occasional travel for training or business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist members with consumer loan applications through phone, online, and in-person channels
  • Review member financial information, including credit reports, income, and debt obligations, to determine appropriate loan options
  • Communicate loan decisions clearly and professionally while providing alternative options when applicable
  • Build and maintain positive member relationships by identifying financial needs and recommending suitable credit union products and services
  • Ensure all required documentation is collected and submitted accurately for processing
  • Maintain knowledge of loan products, lending guidelines, and credit union services
  • Support member retention by delivering a high level of service throughout the lending process
  • Assist with promoting new products, services, and lending programs as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in lending, banking, financial services, or related experience preferred

Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience working with consumer loan applications and documentation preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Certifications and Requirements
  • Successful completion of required BSA training
  • Must be bondable/insurable
Work Environment
This role operates primarily in an indoor office environment with moderate noise levels. Occasional travel, evening, and weekend hours may be required to support business needs and member demand.

Schedule and Compensation
This is a full-time, non-exempt position offering a competitive base salary plus commission based on loan production and performance. 


Department Hours of Operation
  • Monday – Friday: 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (typically one Saturday per month)
Work Schedules
Shifts are assigned within department hours and may vary based on business needs:
  • 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to:
  • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
  • Use hands for typing and handling documents
  • Communicate effectively (talk and hear)
  • Occasionally kneel, crouch, or lift up to 25–30 pounds
