Credit Union 1 is seeking a Consumer Loan Underwriting Manager responsible for overseeing the daily operations, performance, and quality of our consumer underwriting team. This position ensures that loan decisions are accurate, consistent, and compliant with the credit union's lending policies, regulatory requirements, and risk standards, reflecting our commitment to doing what's right for our members and organization. The Manager conducts monthly underwriting audits, monitors loan trends, and works closely with the VP of Consumer Loans to evaluate lending performance and recommend adjustments to underwriting practices. Through leadership that is driven by care and invested in community, this role supports team development, collaboration, and responsible lending practices. This role requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and a comprehensive understanding of consumer lending.

This position is based out of our Abbott Headquarters' (1941 Abbott Rd.) and is open to a Hybrid work schedule with the availability to work on-site, weekly. 

Pay Range: $88,819 - $133,513

In line with our salary administration policy, starting base salaries for new hires typically fall in-between the minimum and midpoint of the designated pay range.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Leadership and Staff Development:

  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, and support to the consumer underwriting team.
  • Monitor individual and team performance to ensure adherence to lending policies, service standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify training needs and assist in developing staff competencies and professional growth.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and member‑focused work environment.

Loan Quality Review and Trend Monitoring:

  • Review loan files to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with internal guidelines and applicable regulations.
  • Monitor approval and decline patterns, portfolio performance, and risk indicators.
  • Identify emerging trends or issues and escalate concerns to leadership as appropriate.

Audit and Compliance Oversight:

  • Conduct monthly underwriting audits for each Underwriter.
  • Document audit findings and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with staff and leadership to implement corrective actions and ensure ongoing compliance.

Policy and Process Support:

  • Partner with the Vice President of Consumer Loans to evaluate lending performance and recommend policy or procedural updates.
  • Assist in the development, revision, and communication of underwriting guidelines, procedures, and training materials.
  • Ensure consistent application of lending policies across the underwriting team.

Reporting and Communication:

  • Prepare and maintain reports related to underwriting trends, audit outcomes, and portfolio quality.
  • Present findings to leadership and participate in discussions related to lending strategy and operational improvements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely dissemination of relevant information.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in consumer lending or underwriting; supervisory or audit experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of consumer lending regulations, credit analysis, and risk management principles.
  • Experience working with indirect lending or dealer networks preferred.
  • Responsible for abiding and complying with the policy for compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering laws and regulations (BSA/AML) and the policy for compliance with office of foreign assets control laws and regulations (OFAC).
