The CONSUMER UNIT advocates on behalf of individuals in the areas of foreclosure, garnishments, and third-party collection lawsuits. In addition, the Consumer Unit is looking to expand its services to cover debt collection, identity theft, student loans, fraud and financial scams, consumer bankruptcy, auto repossession, payday loans, assisting DV survivors with bad credit reports, clinics to educate on consumer issues, and predatory lending practices.
Qualifications • Active membership in the Florida State Bar.
• Experience serving low-income individuals.
• A demonstrable awareness and sensitivity to the needs of the populations we serve.
• A willingness to be an aggressive advocate for our client population.
• Ability to work effectively with a large caseload and function professionally within a highly stressful environment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently at times and also as an effective part of a team, including other attorneys, support staff, volunteers, and community partners.
• Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to work constructively with others.
• Ability to speak more than one language is a plus.
• 3-5 years of experience with foreclosure defense and Chapter 7 bankruptcy preferred.
