Summary: The Content Manager - U.S. Case Law
The Content Manager - U.S. Case Law is the accountable owner of Clio's U.S. case-law collection, one of the company's most strategically critical assets. This role treats case law as a product and infrastructure layer-responsible for coverage parity, data quality, reliability, enrichment, and commercial impact.
You will define and execute the roadmap for U.S. federal and state case law, ensuring Clio achieves and sustains competitive parity with incumbent providers such as Westlaw and LexisNexis, while building a more modern, AI-ready legal data platform that powers Vincent AI and Clio Work. This role sits at the intersection of legal expertise, data infrastructure, and product management. Success requires deep understanding of U.S. legal publishing, comfort operating across engineering and data teams, and a strong bias toward measurable business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Define and execute the roadmap for U.S. federal and state case law, targeting Level A (full parity) coverage against Westlaw and LexisNexis benchmarks.
Establish and manage KPIs for coverage completeness, update latency, citation accuracy, enrichment depth, and reliability.
Drive measurable business impact, including improved win rates, retention, and ARR tied to case-law capabilities.
Maintain a jurisdiction-level coverage heatmap across courts, reporters, archival depth, and update frequency.
Prioritize new coverage and remediation based on precedential value, customer demand, competitive gaps, and cost efficiency.
Lead build / buy / license evaluations in partnership with Licensing, Legal, and Corporate Development teams.
Partner with Content Ops, Data Ops, and Engineering to operate and evolve the ingestion and enrichment stack (including migration to Iceberg pipelines).
Ensure pipelines are resilient, proprietary, scalable, and free from fragile manual or third-party dependencies.
Define and maintain data integrity, monitoring, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery standards to support Vincent and Clio Work research features.
Govern metadata and structural standards, including court identifiers, reporter series, parallel citations, and pagination mapping.
Oversee CERT, Clio's proprietary citator, ensuring validation accuracy and historical treatment of "good law."
Lead enrichment initiatives such as:
Partner with Finance to quantify ROI of new coverage and enrichment investments.
Maintain dashboards tracking cost-per-document, ingestion throughput, parity metrics, and enrichment penetration.
Present quarterly updates to the Content Committee on roadmap progress, risks, and financial impact.
Benchmark Clio's coverage, editorial quality, and citator capabilities against Westlaw, LexisNexis, Bloomberg Law, and emerging competitors.
Source partnerships with courts, publishers, and open-data providers to improve upstream access.
Track advancements in AI and NLP applied to legal text normalization and summarization.
Act as Clio's internal subject-matter expert for U.S. case law.
Enable Product, Sales, Marketing, and Support teams on:
Maintain internal reference documentation covering coverage, enrichment, and positioning.
Serve as an expert advisor on enterprise RFPs and strategic sales engagements requiring deep case-law knowledge.
Partner with Product Marketing and Sales Enablement to articulate case-law differentiation in GTM materials.
Provide ongoing competitive intelligence to inform pricing, packaging, and product strategy.
