JOB PURPOSE:

The CCRC Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and courteous transportation services for residents across all levels of care, including independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing. This role supports resident independence, enhances quality of life, and ensures timely transportation to medical appointments, community outings, and scheduled activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Safely operate community vehicles (sedans, vans, shuttles, or buses) in accordance with state and federal regulations.

  2. Transport residents to medical appointments, shopping trips, recreational outings, and other scheduled destinations.

  3. Assist residents with boarding and exiting vehicles, including those using mobility aids such as walkers, wheelchairs, or scooters.

  4. Provide exceptional customer service, maintaining a warm, patient, and respectful demeanor at all times.

  5. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; report maintenance needs promptly.

  6. Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, and resident trip documentation.

  7. Coordinate with the Activities, Wellness, and Nursing teams to ensure timely and efficient transportation scheduling.

  8. Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of lifts, tie-downs, and securement systems.

  9. Support emergency procedures as needed, including evacuations or urgent resident transport.

  10. Uphold confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational policies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Safe vehicle operation principles, including defensive driving techniques and passenger-transport best practices.

State and federal transportation regulations, including ADA requirements for transporting individuals with mobility devices.

Basic vehicle maintenance such as checking fluids, tires, lights, and reporting mechanical issues.

Senior-care environment protocols, including confidentiality, HIPAA awareness, and resident-centered service standards.

Emergency response procedures, including how to respond to resident medical concerns while in transit.

Proper use of mobility equipment, including wheelchair lifts, tie-downs, and securement systems.

Driving proficiency with sedans, vans, and shuttle vehicles; CDL passenger endorsement if required.

Clear communication, both verbal and written, for interacting with residents and documenting trips.

Time management to ensure timely pickups, drop-offs, and adherence to transportation schedules.

Customer service excellence, maintaining a calm, patient, and respectful demeanor.

Problem-solving, especially when schedules change, residents need additional support, or unexpected delays occur.

Recordkeeping, including mileage logs, maintenance reports, and trip documentation.

Safely assist residents with varying mobility levels, including helping with walkers, wheelchairs, and transfers.

Remain patient and composed when working with older adults who may have cognitive or physical limitations.

Lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs, particularly when assisting with mobility devices.

Navigate traffic and weather conditions safely and confidently.

Build rapport with residents, families, and staff to support a positive community environment.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

High school diploma or equivalent.

12 years of professional driving experience, preferably in passenger transport, senior living, healthcare, hospitality, or a related customer-service environment.

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:

Valid state drivers license

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: (Preferred qualifications)

Clean driving record with no major violations.
